Metallic taste in mouth but negative test - could I be testing too early?

I know, I know, I should just wait a week and test again but I'm so bloody impatient - and I need to know whether to steer away from the vodka jellies at a friend's party this weekend...

I've had this weird greasy/metallic taste in my mouth for a couple of days and hadn't given it any thought til I remembered someone saying it was an early preg symptom. It's 34 days since my last period but I'm always quite irregular so no idea whether I'm late or not, did a test just now which came out negative but I can't explain the weird mouth thing any other way (and I did have sex roughly around ovulation time).

No other symptoms but then I didn't really have any with DD1 (except sore boobs and I don't have them this time). Has anyone else experienced this early on then gone on to have a positive test?

Well, I've not experienced this but if you're in doubt, don't drink. Maybe get one of those tests that predict a few days before your period.......

Cheers Winky - might invest in one of those

And absolutely re the booze - wasn't entirely serious about those vodkas ;-)

I had all kinds of symptoms from only hours after conceiving with number 2 - cramps/heart racing/weeing all night long/feeling totally vague etc etc! (none at all with DD1) I was using the earliest possible tests, but it still didn't turn positive until about 12 days post conception (in fact, I'd decided already that I was going mad and I wasn't pregnant, and only double checked before a night out to see if I could definitely drink!). So if you have an inkling, then I would steer clear of lots of booze (I don't think one drink will hurt this early on, but I think I'm personally more relaxed this time round!). If you can help it at all though, I wouldn't test until at least 12 days post the possible conception date, or later, as its not a reliable negative anyway at that point and its only disappointing each time you get a negative (as if you can wait... I went through about 3 packs of tests!) Good luck! (whichever way you want it to turn out!)

Thanks, Claire - that's really good to know! Will try to restrain myself until the weekend at least...

PS A positive would be just brilliant!!

Hi NOTINTHEKNOW Hope you get the result you want, However be careful not to rush ahead with any thoughts which is what i did!!! I had a MMC in oct 08 then BD a lot over xmas around my ovulation dates then proceeded to have {what i thought was implantation bleeding} 8-12 days post the same, then metallic taste in my mouth, intermittent nausea then i was 12 days late for my AF all while showing as BFN!!!!

Anyway, long story short i eventually got my AF after being convinced i was PG!!! Hey ho !!!! Soo my theory now there is no rationale to this TTC lark!!!

When i got my first BFP in August i didn t even realise at the time until i was late for AF!!!

Hi Louise,

That's really useful too, thank you. I'll try not to get my hopes up too much. I didn't realise 12 days after possible conception was a good time to test so I'll give that a go and if it's still negative just accept that I'm not PG.

V sorry about your mmc.
