Second miscarriage in after 2 years TTC - could it be linked to PPH after 1st child?

Hi all

I'm new to Mumsnet and forums generally, so hope i'm doing it all properly!

I'm currently miscarrying my 3rd pregnancy. I've had 1 full term pregnancy (my beautiful 4 year old girl), I miscarried at 8 weeks in 06 and now (after ttc ever since) i've lost this one (2 days shy of 12 week scan).

Apart from being sore and gutted i'm starting to worry that there might be something wrong with me.

I had a good pregnancy with Lily and the birth was fine except I had a Postpartum Hemorrhage - has anyone heard of a link between PPH and subsequent miscarriages and/or trouble conceiving?

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage.
I've never heard of that link elliezjones, but after the birth of my second daughter, I had very heavy blood loss. A couple of years later I went on to have two early miscarriages.I have since had a successful pregnancy, and also lost a lot of blood after my son's birth.

Are you going to have any investigations?

That gives me hope...how big is the gap between your daughter and son? Just worried coz i'm 36 now.

It's interesting to hear that you had blood loss after your son too...they do say that your chances are higher if you've already had a PPH.

I was concerned coz i had a homebirth first time but probably wont be able to second time round....although not an issue at the mo

I have 3 children and with my last 2 (5 years apart) I had PPH's. No m/cs after the 1st one,my pregnancy with Lily-DD2 (good name choice btw ) was normal.
Five and a half years on and I had a m/c in December and am now going through a possible m/c/threatened m/c.

Never heard of a connection and I think it's probably unlikely but worth mentioning to your GP. Usually after 3 m/cs they will start looking into things just in case there is a problem. Chances are you've just been unlucky though as you already have a DD...

I kind of know how you feel, this is probably going to be my 2nd mc in 3 months and it's hard to accept that it may just be bad luck. I'm also thinking that there must be something wrong with me....

It's so horrible...sorry you're going through it too.

I guess it's worth asking the doc about. I always start with mums/friends first though....we know best afterall!

What does DD actually stand for btw?

I'm so sorry to hear about your current situation. I have never heard about a link, and I suppose it might depend on what caused the PPH and how much blood you lost. (One woman can lose 500ml and be really ill and another can loose 1000ml and feel fine). I think most women understandably look for clues as to why this is happening but the vast majority of miscarriages have no explanation. Good luck though, and hope things get better soon.

I've never heard of a connection between pph and m/c. Wouldn't do any harm to ask your doctor about it.

I've never had pph and I've had 2 consecutive m/c a couple of times between successful pgs.

As Katona.. says you've probably just been unlucky.
However with it taking 2 years to conceive I would be going to the gp to express your concerns and ask to be referred for further testing.

dd means darling daughter, ds darling son, dh darling husband.

The reason why I ask about investigations is not just because of your two miscarriages, also because it's taken you a long time to concieve in the first place, and that may also warrent investigation.

With both my dd2 and ds I had home births, totally natural and intervention free, but the blood loss after ds was scarey and I think if I were to ever have another child, I may want a hospital birth.

If i do manage another full term pg, i'll have to have a hospital birth coz i've now moved from london where DD was born to the middle of nowhere up a dirt track!

I think i'll ask gp about all my concerns.

Hi, I had a PPH after DD and had a transfusion with 4 units of blood. I am now on my third pregnancy and haven't had a miscarriage.
