Have been on clomid now starting cycle 6 shortly, 50mg, everyone i know on clomid has to take a break after 6 mths, before going onto 100mg. my doc has just told me that i can stay on the 50mg without a break?? anyone else here been allowed to continue like this?

I don't know anyone who took a break - but it's not advised to take it for too long. Are your cycles being monitored? Are you ovulating? Have you had all other fertility checks to rule out any other reasons for not being able to conceive?

I only ask cos I was put on clomid without anyone checking my tubes. They were both blocked.

I don't want to worry you but if you are still missing any checks then push for these before carrying on with the clomid.

Good luck.

Would agree with spongebob's response here.

The doc that you refer to - is this the GP?.
GPs are not really the best people to be prescribing this as its quite powerful stuff and you should be monitored whilst on it. It should really be given under a gynae's supervision.

Normally clomid is given for a maximum of six months after which time other treatments should be looked at.

thanks, i have pcos and am now ovulating due to the clomid.

what are the other checks??

i had loads of blood tests before the pcos was diagnosed and a scan of all internal organs. they showed up a dodgy liver (enyzme levels) and some other cysts - but doc says they aren't anything to worry about?

my doc is crap, the last time i had my d21 test she said the result was fine, since i'm not on clomid! i had to remind her that she prescribed it for me 4 mths previous.

have just booked in with a different gp to get a second opinion.

Attila - is gp, but see a gynea doc too, but for some reason he tells gp what to prescribe, after tests.

i think something is getting mixed up in the post.

Stupid question , but I know people for whom this has happened - have you had your tubes checked (lap and dye) and has your dh done a sperm test? Have you had blood tests to check FSH and LH, etc?

If you can afford it I would pay for a full fertility check up at your local fertility clinic (could set you back about £250). I know this may sound a bit OTT but it took the NHS two years to screw up clarify my diagnosis and it was only when I went for a 2nd opinion that the real problem was diagnosed and sorted.

Had all the blood tests, though haven't had a dye test. dh sperm test showed normal.

think the way to go as you say, is private, have private insurance anyway.

thanks.
