Can you develop PCOS later in life? (Like 40!)

Hi, I have had two pregnancies, both conceived on our 5th cycle of trying. We have one DD but the second pregnancy was ectopic and I lost a tube. We have been trying to conceive for over 2 years and a recent scan I had because of pelvic pain I have on my "good" side showed I have polcystic ovaries. Is that not an odd thing to diagnose at my age? I have just turned 40, have always had longish cycles (32-36 days) but light periods.

Not really, the cysts develop over many years so it's not till they get to cause other symptoms that they are noted. I was diagnosed at 32 - I'd had periods since I was nine so it'd had a good while to establish.

Also there is evidence that it can be related to weight gain - bit of a chicken and egg thing - but people tend to be heavier as they get older so it makes sense for PCOS symptoms to become apparent the older you get.

Clomid might help you conceive in these circumstances. Has your consultant talked to you about it?
