We didn't try it but apparently.

Male sperm are quick to get to the other end but die quickly,
Female sperm are slow but last longer so if you want a girl do it a couple of days before OV and if you want a boy do it on or day after OV.

Know when you are OV and BD no later than 3 days before. Also either have sex lots, or get the guy to have solo sex in the days running up as this increases the ratio of girls to boys.

It worked for us.

However, whilst I think having a preference is natural, having a very strong preference is pretty unhealthy. The very poor research into this suggests that can raise your chances of conceiving a girl from 51% ish to 56% ish, not more, so you need to be prepared to accept you may conceive a boy.
