Can you suddenly develop fertility problems?

I was just wondering. We've been TTC for six months now. Have 2 DSs (aged 5 and 3) and conceived them no bother.

I was just wondering if it's possible to suddenly have problems where there were apparently none before. I'm 38 btw and nothing seems different in my body.

I don't know the medical rationale but anecdotally I don't think tis that uncommon.. couple of articles here

yes, its called age I'm afraid

and btw I was told by m/w that if I'm trying for no 2 for between anything up to a year that would not be that uncommon (I'm 36 )

I am 35 and having TTC no 2 for one and a half years. Cycle fine although short, and ovulation normal (I monitor my basal temperature). I think am am fertile for a shorter amount of time, and it is difficult to catch the 12hr window. As you get older the amount of time an egg is fertile can be shorter, also to do with EWCM/fluid being in less quantity/less able to transport the necessary bodies. This is what I have decided myself from fertility friend reading.

I'm 40 and trying to conceive my second child. Conceiving my first took two years (when I was 37). Yes, you can have problems conceiving even if everything is absolutely fine. We have had all the tests and there is nothing wrong with either of us but unfortunately I am rubbish at getting pregnant!

yes - and not always about age - I conceived dd second month of trying (aged 29), then conceived again in one attempt (aged 31) but miscarried. It then took me 2 years, investigations and a round of clomid to conceive my current pregnancy (34 weeks) at 33.

We are in a similar situation ItsGrimUpNorth- on 8th cycle of TTC#3, having had no probs at all TTC#1 & 2. Find it really frustrating (especially as I'm only 29) but in our case think we are just not getting enough BDing in at the right times (our yourgest doesn't sleep well, so lots of disturbed nights limit opportunities!). However, my cycle has changed quite markedly since having DC2 so I am wondering if something else is going on...

I count my blessings having my two DCs but still long for DC3... I think if I haven't conceived after a year I will ask GP for advice, and I guess I could try temping etc. to check I am ovulating.

JJF - exactly the same problem, Dcs 1 and 2 came along first month of trying, but it's now been 13 months of trying for No3. My cycle has gone from 37 to 28 days, however, and I think this may be the problem. I went to a GP a couple of months ago who just said 'good, that means you'll have more chance of ovulating', then implied that now (at just 35) my body was probably just a bit clapped out!!! Might have to look for a second opinion. However, I do feel a bit silly complaining when I already have 2 dcs. Though I was born when my parents were in their 40s...
