We want to start a family.

We went to family planning over the weekend, Doc says we can start trying straight away.

Anyone had problems concieving after taking the pill (Microgynon) for so long?

OP posts:
Jojay · 27/01/2009 22:20

Nope.

I was on the pill ( Brevinor) for 11 years.

Conceived DS1 the first month off it.

Good Luck! And be prepared for a shock

gigglewitch · 27/01/2009 22:22

i took it for 15 yrs - the same one as you
ds1 was hatched at first attempt

littlemiss26 · 28/01/2009 09:26

I took 8 months to get my periods back - well i never got them back as i concieved the first time i ovulated! good luck

girlwithacurl · 28/01/2009 09:34

1 year so far, and counting...

VeryAnnieMary · 28/01/2009 10:39

Hi there - no advice really (sorry!) just to day I came off Microgynon in January. Am about to have first proper period, I think - feel dreadful today, reminds me why I went on pill in the first place!

All the best - will be watching your progress with interest/party poppers at the ready!

moopymoo · 28/01/2009 10:41

yes me too - took microgynon for years, pregnant before 1st period arrived.

rainbowdays · 28/01/2009 11:10

Apparently in the first three months coming of long-term pill, some women are actually more fertile!!!!

wasabipeanut · 28/01/2009 11:13

Took femodene for about 16 years. Stopped taking it in the October before early December wedding but used contraception in November as it would have been a bugger not to be able to get into my wedding dress

Got pg on honeymoon in December.

I didn't know that there was a post pill bounce in fertility but my ds is testament to it! I just wish his brother or sister would get a move on.

kittycatcat · 28/01/2009 15:02

hi hi. I am also in your position, have just come off the same pill. Been on it since i was 15, 33 now....so watch this space, and i will too good luck!

Joy27 · 28/01/2009 15:27

After 9 years on Cerazette I too got pg before my first period (sadly had mc 7 weeks later, but I did conceive).

Tbh the idea of there being a bounce in fertility has worried me slightly. If that's the case then does that mean it will now (7 months later) be much to think that might have been our best chance.

Joy27 · 28/01/2009 15:29

Some of my message disappeared there. Meant to say:

does that mean it will now (7 months later) be much harder to conceive? to think that might have been our best chance.

kittycatcat · 28/01/2009 15:44

I think if you are ovulating you are still in with a good chance, but your fertility is increased just after you come off the pill. Some on another thread gave me a good link earlier. It helps you chart your AF and tells you when you are likely to be most fertile www.fertilityfriend.com/
hope it helps

wasabipeanut · 28/01/2009 15:45

Hi Joy, sorry to hear about your loss. Try not to look at things too negatively in terms of the post pill bounce. Yes, there seems to be evidence that fertility increases in the 3 months first off the pill but afterwards I don't think it drops off drastically - just gently returns to a more normal level as if you had never been on the pill. Your chances of becoming pg in any one cycle are about 25% I think?

amyboo · 09/02/2009 15:26

I came off Mycrogynon at the end of December after 10 years on it. I was incredibly surprised to get a regular 28 day cycle in January. I did experience ovulation cramps for the first time ever, but hardly any period pain (it had been quite bad before I went on the pill). Didn't conceive in January, but I didn't really understand the whole cycle thing, until my gynae explained it, so we didn't have sex at the right time... Have some cramps today which I think are ovulation cramps (day 12 of cycle), so intend to do BD every day this week in hope (DH will be pleased!)!

beanieb · 09/02/2009 15:32

I was on microgynon for about 8 years, then the mini pill for about 8 months. Have been trying for over a year with no success. Not likely to be the pill's fault, more than likely my age or something else.

AliBean · 09/02/2009 15:37

I came off Microgynon after 12 years in August, waited 3 months (using condoms) and concieved in December - 2nd month with no protection...
So the fertility bounce was ignored as doc requested a break before trying (now I realise it was so he could calculate dates properly - sneaky!) but still had no problems.
Good luck - start taking your folic acid!

RedMozzy · 10/04/2009 18:28

Hello, first time posting on here

Reassuring to hear that other people have had long spells without periods after the pill. Am 28, have been on microgynon for 10 years - came off in December 08 TTC - no period yet, surprised at myself for how impatient I feel about it!

My doctor gave me progesterone tablets to try to bring it back but that hasn't worked.
Sigh. The thought of having to wait a year or more is frustrating!

blondieminx · 10/04/2009 20:32

RedMozzy I came off the pill in Dec 07 to TTC but periods didn't come back for months - it turned out this was due to a thyroid problem that had been masked by the pill. Go see your GP and explain that you're concerned your cycle hasn't retuned and that underactive thyroid can be cause of this and request they do both a thyroid and a thyroid antibodies blood test for you. Good luck

RedMozzy · 14/04/2009 18:37

Hi blondieminx thank you for your reply. My GP has checked my thyroid and apparently it is ok. I went back to her and now I am booked in for a pelvic scan. Thanks for the good luck wishes!

RedMozzy · 14/04/2009 18:39

PS just read your profile, good luck to you too!

heverhoney1 · 14/04/2009 19:27

Hey Red I know the feeling! My doc could not work out what was wrong with me I had several sets of bloods taken, an internal scan for PCOS and nothing but confused looks. Good news is they did come back eventually and am now 37 and a half weeks pregnant- All is not lost!

Cosmosis · 15/04/2009 12:04

RedMossy I am in the same situation as you (although slightly older at 34). My doc did some blood tests which revealed my FSH level is slightly high (9.7, should be under 8), but they don't really know what it means as it's supposed to be taken on day 3 of your cycle. I am waiting for a referral at the moment, but in the meantime have just started acupuncture as have heard it has good results in getting your periods back.

Good luck!

DawnAS · 15/04/2009 12:56

I was on the pill for 16 years (Dianette - apparently you're only supposed to take it for 4 years - little did I know...).

Conceived first month but unfortunately had an MC, then conceived again 6 weeks later!! Now 32 weeks PG.

Good Luck!!

Cosmosis · 15/04/2009 14:02

RedMozzy not Redmossy, sorry!

stargirl99 · 20/10/2010 22:43

Hi have just stopped cerazette after 5 years. I am trying for a girl, am doing the diet positions and timing. Have just started trying but am concerned if i catch, it may be ectopic or have mc as have not waited till a period. If i wait i may miss my fertile window. has any one any advice? My age is 39 and i feel this is my last chance.
