Assisted conception - available on NHs or private only?

As I had an EP last May and lost a tube I feel that I should perhsp look at assisted conception...would this ever be available to someone with children on the NHS or is it somethin I'd have to sell my soul for?

If you already have a child the NHS will generally not help with IVF.

You should be able to get a lap or HSG to check your remaining tube on the NHS.

I am not sure about clomid which is sometimes recommended if you have one tube. I am going private, but only because I cannot bear dealing with my dreadful GP's surgery and this way I get to bypass them.

Can i be nosey and ask whta treatment you are having privately and what the costs are approx?

We are considering IUI at the moment, although we're also considering just having clomid and some cycle monitoring instead. I am not sure how much either option will cost (private prescriptions can be a bit of a shocker) although I have seen figures for £1200 for IUI. I'm in London and I guess this would include lots of drugs and scans. Still it is a lot cheaper than IVF where I guess I would be looking at over £4500 (ouch).

My advice would be to get as much as you can on the NHS as possible. While they have rules about IVF, conception can be assisted in lots of less intrusive ways and the NHS might just help you with one of these, or at least give you some reassurance that your remaining plumbing is fine.

I have no advice for you but I'm in the same situation i.e. not in the best financial situation but wanting to start TTC anyway.

I'm hoping there're some words of wisdom out there. I'm wanting everyone to tell me,"Go ahead... you'll never regret it!"
Is there anyone out there who'll admit that they threw caution to the wind and then regretted it?!
