The following is my friends situation, after a positive pregnancy test and early spotting she was sent for a scan, they can find no hearbeat. I am confused and thought some of you may be able to help.

I think i may have been dated wrong. My understanding is that before the fetal pole (or embryo) becomes visible dating is based on the size of the gestational sac. My gestational sac is approximately 19mm (i say approx becuase it is based on an average of 3 measurements as it isnt perfectly round). Everything i have read says the date is calculated by working out that the sac appears at 4 weeks and grows an average of 1 mm per day. So 19 days plus 4 weeks is 6weeks and 5 days, NOT 5 weeks and 5 days as is written in my notes. There can be some variation on this depending on how its calculated but everything i've seen suggests that 19mm suggests a gestational age of 6-7 weeks.

I have managed to work out that if i tested positive extremely early on, which is unlikely but possible, or if i took longer to implant and for the embryo to begin developing then i could have been only 7+2 at the scan not 8+1 as i thought. Much closer to the scan date.

So to my question, does any of the preggers or previously preggers people happen to know (told you it was a long shot) their gestational sac size at either 5, 6 or 7 weeks pregnant??
