dh and i have decided that we are going to try for a baby - will pop the last pill next week

part of me thinks OMG might take forever to conceive, other part of me thinks, I could have a baby by christmas

tbh both scare me - does that sound weird?

I believe the UK average is something like 14 months, someone will doubtless correct me if I'm wrong!

It took 13 months for us to conceive DD. The current bump was conceived on the second month of trying but I had a chemical pregnancy the first month we tried so I suppose you could say it was 2x first try!

theinsider · 09/01/2009 13:12

age is afactor too of course.

In my twenties I got pregnant three times within 2-3 months.

flynn1984 · 09/01/2009 13:13

It took me and DH over 2 years of trying with me on Clomid and having laparoscopy's done, still quite baffled at becoming pregnant as the doctor said there was no chance of having a baby anytime soon...currently 17 weeks with first baby

Good Luck and hopefully you wont have too many problems (if any)

Cicatrice · 09/01/2009 13:14

I was 36 took about 6 wks. I was astounded. Had been quoted 18 month-ish given my age.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/01/2009 13:19

im old - well 35 - which apparently is old for a first time mummy

tbh if nothing has happened after 9/12mths i would prob go to the doctor

most of my friends conceieved with in a few months, but they were younger

i havent said to anyone in the RW that i am trying,as i have seen it hapen to many friends, they get asked every month or so are they pregnant, and i know it really upset one of my bf's, as she couldnt concieve but she went on to ivf and now have 4yr twins

flynn thats fabby news that you fell pregnant - was obv meant to be

Cicatrice - 6 weeks -god that does scare me - tech i could be pregant in march if that was the case for me

BlondesHaveMoreFun - I am older ! I was 38 when we started TTC in June - had a CP in July, then conceived in Sept, which was really the first month of me understanding my cycle and fertile window.

I really though I might be too old, and we decided to give it 6 months and see what happened - it has been quite an eventful 6 months !

MC'ed just after my 39th birthday in November but am hoping I am now on a 2WW now, so still in with a chance to have a baby before I'm 40

Cicatrice · 09/01/2009 13:28

Blondeshavemorefun it put the wind up us, I can tell you.

All the media concentrates on how hard it can be to conceive after 35 but in RL I know quite a few quick conceptions well after 35.

I also didn't want to tell people that we were trying in case we ran into trouble, and then had questions.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/01/2009 13:35

glad im not the only one to say nothing to rw friends

it may take a month - or may never happen - you just donr know

· Just 25% of couples actively trying to conceive become pregnant the first cycle.

· 60% become pregnant in the first six months of trying to conceive.

· 75% of couples become pregnant within nine months.

· 90% of couples experience pregnancy within 18 months.

Onlyaphase · 09/01/2009 14:12

And it took me 4 years to have DD (started trying at 32) and actually having DD involved lots of test, operations and then IVF......so best advice is to get cracking, give it a few months and then get down the doctors if nothing happpens.

Onlyaphase · 09/01/2009 14:14

Oh, and good luck!

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/01/2009 14:22

thanks-will keep you posted

at 32 got pregnant second month of trying. You'll never know til you try. It did freak me out a bit when I got the BFP, even though he was wanted and planned. I think just the enormity of it all can hit you a bit once you are up the duff...there's no going back. But I wouldn't go back for all the tea in China, it's by far the best thing I have ever done in my life.

WowOoo · 09/01/2009 15:23

1st 2/3 months, 2nd time 22 months!

VeryAnnieMary · 09/01/2009 17:32

Hi there Blondeshavemorefun - not much to add, just that I took my last pill on NYE 2008 and am 34 and when you said , that just about sums up where we are too!

Are you doing it properly with cycle analysis etc or just "seeing what happens" for a while? I think I'm too nervous to do it properly yet - and I haven't told anyone in RL either.

A-M x

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/01/2009 17:41
