Because Ive just done one and got a BFN

It does say that it only detected pregnancy in 62% of women at 6 days which I suppose is comforting, but I cant help but think if I was it would have showed.

Anyone any experience of these first response tests?

Seriously, if at all possible put all the tests away until the day you're due - it's just not worth the disappointment. It depends when you ovulated, when you implanted, and how quickly your HCG levels are rising.

I know it's hard, I've been there, but step away from the tests!

Lulumama · 02/01/2009 14:44

these tests are not a good thing IMO. they tap into women;s desperation to know asap if they are pregnant.

also, you did not use FMU so your BFN might not be a BFN

if it detects pregnancy in 62 % of women, it won;t it 38 % of women.

whihc is quite an inaccurate rate IMO

I know, ive waited a few days and just couldnt wait any longer, I really thought it would be pink seeing as Ive had no problem concieving in the past.

So theyre really not a good thing then? Dont think Im even gonna tell dh that Ive tested will just wait til next week and see what happens

First morning urine

Flightattendant7 · 02/01/2009 14:50

Sorry Mossy. I don't think it is too reliable though, I had different experiences re results with my two. One was a clear BFP and the other was very very pale.

I mean it doesn't necessarily mean you aren't preggers iyswim

Hope you are!!

mosschops30 · 02/01/2009 14:52

FA did you do yours 6 days early?

OP posts:
Flightattendant7 · 02/01/2009 15:00

oh gosh, no they didn't exist in those days. Sorry. AQm not much help but I think they were on same day of cycle iyswim, so it can vary. I never had much trouble conceiving either so would have assumed I'd be in the 62% but I guess it isn't that simple.
Good luck xx

I don't want to get your hopes up too much, but just to let you know that tested 3 days early and got a negative, then got a positive on the day i was due. Try to hold off till then.

mosschops30 · 02/01/2009 15:02

thank you looooouise lots of false hope taken from that post

It will only pick u a positive result if your Luteal Phase is usually quite long.

If you luteal phase was 16 days for instance then it may pick up a +ve result because 10 days would be enough time from Ovulation and conception to attach to the uterus lining and produce the small quantity of HCG necessary for the bfp.

If your LP was anything less than 14 days (loads of women's are) then the embryo would only be either just beginning to implant or more likely on it's way down the uterus to implant and therefore would not be producing the hormone for the test to detect.

The earliest I would ever test with a 12 day LP (mine) is 10 days and even then I'd prepare for a false negative.

Best wait until the day, or day before you are due.

Good Luck!

Issy42 · 02/01/2009 15:49

Astarte - your explanation makes so much sense, I'd never thought of being linked to LP length before.

mosschops - was it a first response you used? If so they have a misleading definition of 6 days early as they mean 6 days before the day after AF due, so really 5 days early.

Whether to test early or not is a matter of personal choice. I can see both arguments and still haven't decided what is best. I try not to test early, but always give in. At least this gives a gentle let down of hoping I'm in the percentage of women who don't show early rather than come crashing down with a bump when temp drops pre-AF.

Good luck and hope you get a positive test next time you do one.

mosschops30 · 02/01/2009 15:57

Thanks, I have only just had my mirena out a few months ago so no idea how long my LP is.
All I know is ive got about 20 pairs of maternity trousers upstairs from the Next sale to send back and Im sick of them lying around

I don't see the point because even if you get a positive it is fairly likely to be a chemical rather than real pregnancy. I've never done a test when I've been less than a week late, that way you get the answer to the question.

mosschops30 · 02/01/2009 22:53

east to say brettgirl, but I am a very impatient woman

Is mahoosive evening bloating a sign of pregnancy? For the last two nights I have looked like I am 6 months pg! I was like this with ds but not until about 10 weeks
