Hi all - my sister is mid thirties and has PCOS, endometreosis and has just had her right tube and ovary removed as they were all damaged (but thankfully no disease). She i know is hoping for a baby with IVF. Her periods naturally are very sporadic. She hasn't as yet started IVF - has anyone got any positive stories of similar experiences or any advice i can pass on to my sis. Many thanks xxxx

I wish I had a success story from someone in the same position to pass on, but I don't - however I do know many women who have conceived successfully with IVF, success rates have risen fast, and she's still in her mid thirties so not as old as most of my cronies .

Sporadic periods and missing right ovary are problems that IVF is excellently designed to address. I'm afraid I don't know enough about PCOS and endometriosis to comment on them.

but you know, many of us have conceived against great odds, me included. So GOOD LUCK to your sister and really hope you have good news to post soon.

I have one friend who had endometriosis and conceived non-identical twins (they are gorgeous) at the same age, naturally, after over a year of trying (post-surgery), and another who had a successful IVF with PCOS.
If your sis goes for IVF they will check her ovary function/hormone profile and advise her accordingly?
lots of luck x

Have you tried posting on the Assisted Conception thread? They might be able to help. Or maybe re-post the thread with a different heading like "IVF, endometriosis and PCOS" which might attract some people far more knowledgeable than me!

Also, Fertility Friends is a mine of information and is where a huge number of women undergoing IVF post. I bet there will be someone there who has experienced similar.

If your sister is particularly anxious, is there a counselling service offered by her fertility clinic? I can't help feeling that finding a way to feel positively about the whole thing - or at least to talk about all of the emotions she might feel during the process - might help her.
