It sounds like you may have ovulated later than normal or may have had an anovulatory cycle (which happens to everyone from time to time). Either of these could delay your period.

I would leave it until January and then go see the GP if nothing has happened. If you are not ovulating regularly this can be treated. How long have you been ttc? If it is a long-ish period this may be worth a trip to the GP in any event.

mrs happy thank you for the advice the last few months my periods have been late, we have been trying for about 6 months however not taking any precautions more on a year.

recently i have had to have some laser done on cervix but my most recent smear thankfully came bk normal after i had the laser done, could this cause lateness or anything

I would have thought that if you had something done to your cervix (or a smear) before you ovulated, this might delay ovulation and therefore your period. I find that ovulation can be later as the result of all sorts of things - stress, illness, medical procedures, travel etc. However, you say your last few periods have been late. To me (not an expert BTW) this suggests that your cycle has changed and maybe you are becoming less regular. I think in those circumstances I would speak to the GP.

If your periods have been consistenly late these last few months I would have a blood test done to see what your hormone levels are like.

A blood test can be done to determine whether there are either any issues with your thyroid gland (that can affect periods) or a hormonal condition called polycystic ovaries (PCO). Both thryoid problems and or PCO can cause periods to cease.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 28/12/2008 10:41

Would add that both can be treated but you need medical advice first and foremost to establish the cause of the absent periods.

i was having kidney infections and pain, so i had a scan done about 4 months ago
