Hi
I have been ttc my 2nd dc for over a year without success and still have no idea of my natural cycle length due to erratic periods.

sorry to be gross but have noticed for the past 3 days a jelly stretchy clear like discharge.
However I am baffled as to why I would get this so late in my cycle as I have heard this is a sign of ovulation but surely I wouldn,t ovulate this late I am currently on cd 27.
Somebody also told me that you can get this in early pregnancy does anybody know if thats true.
Sorry all very dumb questions I know.

If you have erratic cycles then you could be about to ov on day 27 - my longest cycle has been 40 days so think I ov'd on day 26.

I have always found ewcm to be a really good indicator of my fertile time - is it clear and pretty stretchy?? Prob tmi but you can stretch it between your fingers or tissue for a few cm without it breaking if it is your fertile mucus.

Have a look at Fertility Friend.com as it enables you to track your cycle and helps you understand it a lot better. Good luck ttc

If your periods are irregular this is likely to be due to hormonal imbalances. A blood test should be done to see if there are any issues with your thyroid or polycystic ovaries. Both thyroid problems and polycystic ovaries may be two possible causes.

It is not the case at all that ovulation occurs two weeks before the start of your next period. Ovulation is not an exact science and it can occur earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle. If your cycles are irregular too you are less likely to be ovulating regularly if at all.

I would seek medical advice sooner rather than later as you have now been ttc for a year without success. Temp charting and the like is of no benefit at all if cycles are irregular.

It is possible to get patches of EWCM after ovulation.

I tend to get a patch at around 7dpo. One explanation I have read is that because the corpus luteum emits oestrogen as well as progesterone, you can see EWCM from time to time.

It is also possible to see an increase in CM in pregnancy. It has been a reliable sign for me in the past.

However, if your cycles are erratic and you have been ttc for over a year I agree that you should see a doctor.
