Hey ladies

I'm really hoping i can get some advice. Here's a bit of background info......

I have been trying to get pregnant for the last few months with a known donor (we are a gay couple) But last month (due to legal disagreements) we stopped. I had a pretty normal period, although a bit lighter than normal (sorry if tmi)

So we are now going down the unknown route and puchasing some swedish sperm and have our first appointment at the fertility clinic next month

Anyway, i have still been charting and this month OV'd early for me on day CD14. I have charted for the last month and have a 9/10 days luteal phase which has worried me. I am now on CD 30 and still no AF, thats 5/6 days late. I have done lots of pregnancy tests and BFN (although remember i havent tried to concieve this month)

Spoke to my Dr today and she has referred me for bloods tomorrow to check for an eptopic pregnancy as apparently your luteal phase doesn't usually change without a medical reason and for the last week i have had odd cramping in my stomach

HELP??? Any ideas/adice appreciated

I wish i had some advise in repsect of the luteal phase - i dont even know what it is, but I did suffer an eptopic pregnancy, then take bloods to check for 'a' hormone which reflects how far your pregnancy is- I had no real pain at all but did suffer a slight cramping on my right side ( by my hip bone) - i dont know what BFN is (sorry new to this site cant do abbreviations well yet) but if you are showing a positive pregnancy then you need to have a scan a blood test will only show how pregnant you are a scan will show where the baby is - if god forbid - it is eptopic then hopefully if you are very early in your pregnancy it should be dealt with quite easily. Also are you sure that what you belived to be your last period was not that small bleed you get ( i think its called implantation bleed) when you first fall- I hope the above has helped and nopt confused you more - and good luck

Hi

It is possible to have an extended LP and not be pregnant - if you google "corpus luteum cyst" you will find some info.

It is also possible with ectopics to have BFNs for a bit because the pregnancy does not always establish a very good blood supply if it is not in the uterus.

The blood tests will be for HSG (the pregnancy hormone) and will determine whether or not you are pregnant. If you are, the doctors will investigate from there. The investigation will take the form of repeated blood tests to see if your HSG levels are rising normally and a scan (but note that a relatively smnall number of ectopics are identified on the scan).

The cramping and the BFNs could happen in a normal pregnancy or it might be that you are not pregnant. I would not stress particularly about possible ectopics just yet.

Any news makingafamily?

makingafamily · 06/12/2008 21:27

Hi MrsHappy

thanks for your post. No news and no period, but i have found out that you can have two LH surges in one cycle, so am crossing my fingers its that

Are you only using OPKs and not charting temps?
If so it can be hard to tell when you ovulate, because as you've noticed you can have more than one LH surge.

I hope it works out for you. Did the doctor do a blood test?
