I would to know who had a hard time trying to conceive again after having an emergency C Section for your first baby. Anyone care to care their stories?

No problem at all - didn't even try. We conceived while breastfeeding, miscarried at 5 weeks, then conceived DS the following month.

Good luck!

Buckets · 29/11/2008 19:51

Disn't think there was a connection. Got pg by accident after Csec, had another CSec and got pg by accident again!

ChippyMinton · 29/11/2008 19:53

DS2 arrived 12 months & 3 weeks after DS1's emergency CS

DDsMumma · 29/11/2008 19:54

I read that subsequent pgs can take longer if you have had a c section. Also more risk. I had a c section for my dd and she was conceived without trying but we are finding it taking a long time to TTC for baby no.2. Its good to know that there is hope for me .

i have never heard this, my dd was an em c-sec but we are now ttc no2. can anyone point me in the direction of any reading?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 29/11/2008 19:56

Fell pg with ds2 (the 1st month of trying) after an emergency csection.

Good luck

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 29/11/2008 19:58

Oh, and also meant to say that ds2 was a VBAC.

I have heard read about csections and them affecting fertility. Is it to do with adhesions? I'm wracking my brain tryinng to think where I saw it.....

Jackstini · 29/11/2008 20:01

Had dd by emcs, waited for a year before trying, concieved after 2 months - mmc, concieved after 1 month - mc, concieved again after 4 months all while still bfing)- due in 2 weeks! (

ChukkyPig · 29/11/2008 20:02

I conceived DD2 after I stopped BF - had an emergency CS with DD1.

I hadn't heard of any connection with fertility but iliketomoveit thinks she might have..

Maybe google?

MummyGorilla · 29/11/2008 20:02

Olivo, I think the scar tissue after a CS has been linked to problems conceiving - I recall reading something about the embryo not being able to embed into the scar so if it chooses that particular spot to attach it can be a problem. But as I recall that was just a theory.

I had an em c-s and conceived straight away second time, so please don't be too despondent!! Up to 25% of deliveries are cs and there are lots of subsequent pregnancies!

MummyGorilla · 29/11/2008 20:03

cross posted, but hope that helps, the article was on BBC website I recall. I also had a very speedy VBAC if we're going for positive stories!!

olivo · 29/11/2008 20:05

i think i'll check it out,thanks.
good luck ddsmumma, if you're ttc!

Buckets · 29/11/2008 20:12

Oh yes, good luck!

EachPeachPearMum · 29/11/2008 20:48

DDsMumma · 29/11/2008 21:09

I had an emergency section with DD. Then got pregnant with DS first time we had unprotected sex...

olivo · 30/11/2008 09:27

ddsmumma - there are plenty of hopeful stories here, so try not to be too concerned.
I look forward to reading about a BFP for you sometime soon.

Suze25 · 30/11/2008 11:16

Had emergency c-section with DS and have been trying for no 2 for 9 months. When I spoke to my doctor about this she didn't give any credence to the theory that a previous c-section causes problems TTC again. Like DDsMumma I'd heard that it could. However, I guess other factors also have a bearing especially age.

JumpingJellyfish · 30/11/2008 12:35

I conceived DD as soon as we stopped using contraception after having an emergency cs with DS- she too was born by emcs (2yrs & 2months after my first emcs). However that cs was a lot "tougher" due to extensive scarring from the first one, the op took a lot longer, and now we have been TTC#3 for 5 months with no luck so far which is making me a wee bit suspicious (since both DCs were conceived straight away). But quite stressed at the mo so hoping it's just that and perhaps not enough BDing!! Though had also read previously about problems of adhesions/scar tissue making it difficult for ferlised embryos to implant- but this is very rare. I have decided if after a year of TTC we haven't had any joy to ask my GP to investigate...

Good luck to you all x

As you can see, there are lots of hopeful stories, but you are right to pin-point c-section as a cause of fertility problems.

I had an emcs in 2006 and have been trying for number 2 for 18 months. In that time I have had 2 ectopics, which may just be one of those things, but also c-section (along with any abdominal surgery) is a risk factor for ectopics.

I am now seeing a fertility specialist who tells me that in 5% of cases a c-section will lead to fertility problems. Noone tells you this as you are wheeled into theatre, but then at the time future fertility is not the main issue! However 5% problems means that in 95% of cases there is no issue at all, thus the odds are overwhelmingly in your favour. I would just focus on that if I were you...

cali · 30/11/2008 22:51

Had dd1 by emcs, "forgot" about contraception once and once only, result dd2.
We had been trying for dd1 for quite a while, dd2 was a bit of a surprise as we weren't even trying to conceive and I think for us, that made all the difference.

elkiedee · 01/12/2008 07:17

Not my own experience, but a baby group friend had taken a while to conceive first time round, had emcs and then was surprised to get pg first go second time round - baby was born at the end of October, with 21 months between her and big brother.
