How long did you wait between coming off the pill and ttc?

I've heard that it's a good idea to wait three months or so in order to get a "normal" cycle back...but does anyone know of any health risks to baby if conceived immediately after coming off the pill? I'm on Yasmin...

I came off the pill and fell pregnant instantly with both my children and they had no health complications.

Yeah I've heard the same but I have also heard its a bit of a myth.

I came off the pill and got pregnant pretty much straightaway with my ds. Apparently there can be a real upwards bounce in fertility after coming off it.

I found this out afterwards

Jojay · 26/11/2008 14:34

I got pregnant the first month after coming off teh pill, twice. No problems with either child or me. Go for it!

I read somewhere that you can actually be more fertile the first month after coming off the pill. Can't remember the science though....

Thanks, girls!

Anyone else out there with strong feelings either way?

I have a friend that got pregnant twice before her first cycle coming off the pill. Both are healthy babies.

Joy27 · 26/11/2008 18:01

I got pregnant within weeks of coming off the pill, before I'd had a period.

I had a miscarriage but I'm assured this was totally unrelated and was probably down to my blood group.

Kwini · 26/11/2008 20:43

Really sorry to hear about the mc, Joy - I hope things are looking up now?

Did any of you have difficulty calculating your due date? I suspect that my "real" cycle is going to be all over the shop (it was before I went on the pill, about seven years ago), so will this complicate things? Did your due date turn out to be earlier/later than estimated, based on the fact that you last cycle wasn't a "real" one?

I took my last pill on a saturday and 10 days later I was pg. Wasn't quite so quick second time round which served me right for preening about being fertile myrtle.

brettgirl2 · 29/11/2008 09:49

Oh don't worry about due date - they change it anyway based on the 12 week scan.

I found that I was asked time and time again when my previous period was, after I had patiently explained yet again that I hadn't had one someone eventually just invented a date. I was then told very earnestly at the scan that it was wrong - well, there's a surprise!!!

Kwini · 30/11/2008 20:14

Aha - that's good to know, Brett (that the 12-week scan clarifies things anyway).

Thanks!

I came off pill (having been on for 10 years) and conceived within a fortnight. Barely had time to come round to the idea of TTC. He is fab and nearly 11!

beanieb · 01/12/2008 12:05

Started trying straight away last october. Still no sign of a baby though.

Kwini · 02/12/2008 13:29

Fingers crossed for you, Beanieb!

I wonder if other factors come into play for people? Apart from coming off the pill, had any of you already started to make lifestyle (eg. dietary) changes? Taking supplements, folic acid, etc?

brettgirl2 · 02/12/2008 19:21

No, absolutely not, in fact I thought it would take a while for my cycle to settle back down so wasn't even really thinking about getting pg.

zen1980 · 02/12/2008 20:13

I came off pill in May and still no baby x

Kwini · 03/12/2008 14:37

Fingers crossed for you, Zen!

Kwini · 03/12/2008 23:16

Well, there's still time - you could just make it!

(Sorry, am hopeless with cycle days - can't seem to figure out when day 1 begins...)
