Question about end of luteal (sp) phase

My periods are 'odd' in that they start with very light old blood for up to 5/6 days, then very heavy bright red for 3, then old for another 3/4.

Question is, does the luteal phase finish as soon as old blood starts to appear, or when bright red bleeding starts?

Hi HeinzSight

As I understand it, the first day of bright red blood counts as the first day of the period (and therefore the first day of a new cycle).

I actually get 1-3 days of light brown-coloured spotting before and after my own period. I only count the first day of proper red-coloured flow as the first day of my period. Brown coloured "old blood" spotting before and after a period is reasonably common I think.
