I've just been for a mid cycle scan to see if the Clomid has worked and it hasn't. Next month I'll have to take 2 tablets a day, in stead of one. Would this increase the risk of all the nasty side effects?
Has anyone else had to have a higher dose of Clomid and has it worked?
I'm feeling really fed up at the moment, my scan was on my birthday too.
I don't really understand it, as it worked every time on one tablet when we were TTC our daughter.
If anyone has been in a similar situation I'd love some encouragement.

I ended up on 150mg which did work (4th cycle)

When I was TTC DS1 - I didn't ovulate at all on clomid - when I was TTC DS2 it did - so I think it comes down to what your hormones are doing.

Stick with it - and hopefully it will work soon

Thank you. I just assumed it would work, as it's worked before.
Fingers crossed for next month, the mood swings will be awfull though, as they were bad enough on one tablet.
It'll all be worth it though.

mummyloveslucy- i have been trying for 2 yesrs to conceive my first child, one mc. I have had 5 cycles of clomid- first on 50mg- worked but no pg so second round which didn't work. I remember how shocked I was when they told me. I had to wait forever and a day for AF where they upped me to 100mg; first time worked second time didnt. at that time my consultant told me this is quite common to have an immediate response to it on just one month but then nothing the next which is why it always worked again when they upped the dose. needless to say i was a little pensive when they upped me to 150mg but it didn't work. I really feel for you because we always had sunday scans too and I would get very excited on the way and then to find out it hasn't worked is devastating. In my experience the extra clomid didn't really change the side effects although i found myself much more emotional. dont know if this was the clomid or the overwhelming frustration. so found out 2 weeks ago the clomid didnt work last cycle and now waiting for af and then have to write to my consultant to be added to a long waiting list for injections and im trying to stay positive that clomid just isnt for everyone- in my instance i have pcos. It is so hard when expecting that clomid will be the answer when it isnt. my only words of encouragement are to get lots of rest and be good to yourself. I would say 'relax' but i always wanted to hit anyone who said that to me so I wont. I used to think about the clomid all the time and im sure that did not do me any good tho. take care and good luck for next month!

I can see why you are disappointed however, this scenario is not actually all that uncommon. One good thing is that you are being montiored whilst on it so they can see if it is working or not. At least they have taken the decision now to up the dosage rather than leaving you on 50mg for another month or two.

I have to say though that it does not always work especially if PCOS is an issue (it can markedly increase LH levels which is something that many PCOSers have an excess of to start with). You need to prepare yourself that it may not work this time around regardless of dosage; I sincerely hope that this will not be the case with you but forewarned is forearmed. After 6 months of this drug treatment other treatments should be tried. I would also start asking them about other treatment regimens now; they need to have something in place in the event that clomid is ultimately unsuccessful.

I think the next step would be ART, I think you have to pay for it but it's not as much as IVF. I should look in to it just in case the Clomid dosn't work.
