Why Grapefruit Juce ???

Why is drinking grapefruit juce important when TTC?.
Does it help with fertillity or is it good for the baby? I can't stand the stuff, but if it was beneficial, I'd drink it.

Hi - I don't know the science and it may just be an old wive's tale but apparently it helps produce the right mucus (ewcm) for sperm to travel in, so no need for it post conception.

mummyloveslucy · 13/11/2008 12:38

Oh, I see. It's worth a try then.

It wouldn't interfere with Clomid would it ?

It won't interfere with Clomid, and could even help since one of the side effects of clomid is that it can sometimes dry up your cervical fluid. The unsweetened variety is supposed to be better but not sure of the science behind that. The Tropicana one tastes as good as grapefuit juice can ever taste I think!

Thanks, I don't think I could drink the un sweetened one. I'll buy some Tropicana tomorrow.

I think it is meant to thin out CM. Having EWCM is all good but if its really thick then apparently it is less useful.

Could all be rubbish of course but it can't do any harm!

i tried grapefuit and evening primrose oil this month but no pg sadley but whose to say it doesn't work? I ill take it this month as well. Also the cough mixture robitussin is meant to be good for the mucus. I will be full up after taking all this stuff!!

I would quite like to know if anybody has ever read any research on the efficacy of grapefruit juice. I mean I'm trying it (it can't hurt can it) but in the end it is just a citrus fruit - what is the difference been a grapefruit and an orange or a lime? Was this rumour started by the man from delmonte or something?

Jools1 · 21/11/2008 20:34

This site explains it quite well

I actually have come to quite like Waitrose pink grapefruit juice It needs to be fresh - not from concentrate I am told.

Sabs1981 · 21/11/2008 22:05

thanx for the explanation. I didnt understand the signficant of grapefruit juice either until now

TTC05 · 06/12/2008 08:49

lol @ delmonte man!! I too am taking grapefruit juice and have noticed a difference I don't normally get ewcm, (occasionally a little internally), but since drinking grapefruit juice it has definitely improved! I used to find it disgusting but im used to it now and its ok. I knock it back in 'shots' with my various supplements and it does the trick

It worked wonders for me, i got pregnant on my 2nd cycle of with and it really obviously made a difference to my CM, we'd been ttc for years.

You need to drink a big glass every day, it as to be the fresh squeezed stuff not from concerntrate... i hated it and used to put a bit of lemonade in mine to take the edge off it.

good luck

PS, it gave me thrush though so be warned
