i am confused. my opk came up pos on cd19 which means i ovulate either today or tom. On the internet it says the only thing you can guarentee is your af comes 14 days after ovulation. This would make my cycle 35 but i am always 28 or 27 days.Does anyone know if this is true?

No, this is absolutely not true! A textbook or ideal cycle is 28 days long with ovulation taking place on day 14 and af arriving 14 days later. But in reality there are many many variations. For example, I usually ovulated anywhere between CD18 and CD22 and my luteal phase (which is the phase between ovulation and AF) is about 11 days. Although an LP can vary from woman to woman, it should remain fairly consistent in any one woman - meaning if your period comes 12 days after you ovulate, it shouldn't vary more than a day or so from cycle to cycle. It's entirely possible to ovulate late due to all sorts of factors including stress, travel, illness, etc, but your LP is meant to be a constant and is usually between 12 to 16 days long (anything shorter than 10 days could indicate a problem)

Hope that helps!

I am now worried after looking on another thread about lp. If i don't ovulate until cd20/21 this month and i am usually 27/28 days does this mean i have a short luteal phase. Does this mean i won't get pg this motnh? last month the opk was pos on cd15, why so late this month?

How long have you been monitoring your cycles? Like I said, your LP should remain constant from cycle to cycle. So if you got a positive OPK on CD15 last month, it's likely you ovulated around CD16. If last month you had a 28 day cycle, then your LP was 12 days long, which is perfectly acceptable. If you don't ovulate until CD20 or 21 this month, your period will likely arrive by CD33 or so. Your LP won't be any shorter, but your cycle will be longer. Get it?

As I mentioned, ovulation can be delayed by lots of outside factors including stress, illness, travel etc.

SO my lp should always be the same? i have 2 ds and they were both conceived within the 1st motn and we bd round cd13-cd16. I know pg effects hormones but my cycle is pretty much always 28 days expect for not last month but the one beofre where it was 33 dyas. I thought i was pg and had a miscarriage, maybe not? maybe i had a long cycle like this month. Oh this is so scary and confusing. I guess i will have to just wait for af and see when that comes so i will know the lp for this month. but you say they should be around the same each month so last month definately was pos opk on cd15 and was a 27 dayc cyle which makes it about 11 days? borderline maybe?

you could just have a screwey cycle this month.

hope so. i really dont want the stress of a short lp. I did so much this motnh. Came off my antihistamines earlier as i have urticaria so i itch a lot at the mo, which is annoying, drank grapefruit juice and took eveningprimrose. Now it may be screwed up due to short lp aarrggghhhhh

An 11 day luteal phase is considered normal. As already detailed that 14 days thing is a load of rubbish.

There are reasons why your lp might change. After having dd my lp was all over the place. It was just my hormones being a bit out of sync. It settled down over a period of months.

Keep an eye on your cycle for a couple of months and try and detect a pattern that's true to you.

thanks. i am hoping that as mentioned the lp is a constant and last month was definatley 12 according to others, then i am ok. As if we don't have enoguh stress in our lives without having to worry about lp
