Can anyone help? Last month i used opk and on cd16 it detected the LH surge, it is CD17 today this month and still no surge on OPK. Can it be different each month. If i still have no surge then ovulation won't take place until at least CD19, isn't this a bit long? However we did go away for the weekend. I tested Sat mon which was neg but couldn't test again until sun night. Could i have missed the LH surge in this 24 hours? How long does the LH stay? I am confused!!!

hi,

i posted something similar a little while ago (i am using opks and am wasn't getting positives) - lots of people replied saying that they didnt get them every month, even on months they conceived. others said that a surge can be missed if onlv testing once in a 24 hr period.

hope that helps - i'm sure others have some more scientific responses too,

OPK's can be misleading at best, they are really not worth using. Apart from the expense they can be difficult to interpret.

They work on two misleading principles; namely that women only have one rise in LH every month and that such a rise is followed by ovulation. Both of these are not true at all. You can certainly have more than one LH surge throughout the month.

Ovulation is not an exact science and a woman can ovulate earlier, later or not at all in ANY given cycle.

An important consideration is also what your periods are like in terms of regularity. If they are irregular in nature OPK's are not worth using at all.
