What to do if you have really irregular periods and are ttc ?

My friend is trying for her first baby but she has very irregular periods. She can go for months without having one.

She has been ttc since end of August and is not pregnant yet. I have reassured her that this isn't abnormal but she is worried that something may be wrong because of her irregular periods.

Has anyone got any advice I could pass on ??

It's not abnormal to not get pregnant within the first couple of months of trying.

That said, your friend is right that something could be wrong and that her irregular periods might be a symptom. For example, irregular periods can indicate PCOS. She should really see her GP for some blood tests. If she's going months without a period I would bet she is not ovulating terribly often, so her chances of conception are going to be reduced unfortunately.

Thanks MrsHappy

She is planning on making an appointment with her gp, so I will pass this info on and she can ask about it.
