Pain in ovary/fallopian tube area for last month or so anyone had anything similar?

So started TTC #1 last month and pretty much from ovulation I noticed a funny stitch like pain which I hoped was a pregnancy symptom but then AF arrived, but the pain didn't go away. On day 9 of my next cycle (so pain for over 3 weeks) I went to the doctors for that and bad period pains. She examined me and said she thought it was an infected tube and prescribed 4 doses to be taken as one of Zithromax (which I later discover is also a treatment for chlamydia- humph- I am a sexual health educator- I know I dont have that!). Dr also banned me from sex for the rest of this month to give me chance to heal.

So I took the tablets as prescribed and 5 hours later I had the worst dodgy tum ever (almost defo as a result of the antib's) and am worried that maybe they didnt have enough time to take effect before they were flushed from my system.

The pain has definitely reduced (now on day 15 of cycle) but it is defo still there so I will give it another week or so and then go back to the dr's.

Anyhow I am a bit worried about it all(stupidly I googled it- BAD THANDEKA! and I am now a bit worried about it being an infertility indicator as I have had infections in my womb before that needed treating with anti-b's and apparently 3 or more occurences=50% chance of infertility- I am also one of those unlucky ones who is prone to BV, thrush, cystitis from sex and investigations yielded no obvious cause)

Has anyone else had anything similar? What did it turn out to be?

Don't get me wrong I absolutely know the person to speak to is my dr, I guess I am just looking for some reassurance.

Sooo gutted that I am ovulating in the next few days and can't take advantage of it. Boo.

Okay the fact i am talking to myself in here is worrying me more- seriously has no-one on mumsnet had anything like this? A freak of wombical nature?

She may test you for an ovarian cyst. I had a really large one that they had to remove. When it got big it caused me quite a bit of pain and I could feel it in my tummy on the left side (doc said it felt like a 3 month pg), but when I look back over the last year or so I guess I had pain on & off & just put it down to prolonged AF symptoms, I guess it was growing at this stage.
Don't worry though they only remove it if it gets too big & most of the time it doesn't effect your ovaries or fertility, but worth asking dr to rule it out as its more common than you think

Thandeka · 15/10/2008 09:17

Thankyou for replying smileycat.

Can they go away by themselves?

Yes thats what they hope for. Once they know you have one they will monitor it and hope that the body sucks it back in. Every woman gets a small one everytime they get close to ovulating its what the egg is released into, then when you ov it 'pops' & releases the egg down the tube, sometimes it doesn't 'pop' & hangs around for a couple of cycles & sometimes fills up with fluid & gets a little bigger. Dr told me that usual at this stage around 3cm the body then absorbs it back, but sometimes it goes a little haywire and keeps on growing. Onces it gets over 5/6cm they look at removing it, at this stage they can do it with keyhole. Mine got too big & I had to have a c-section & the ovary & tube removed, but don't let this scare you I was just unlucky. But I havn't let that stop me as I'm still TCCing..fingers crossed for you

Thandeka · 15/10/2008 09:41

I know loads of people who have concieved with one tube so it will all be fine, in my head I reckon the remaining ovary will overcompensate fingers crossed for you.

I studied animal reproductive physio for a few years at uni so I know all about follicles but not so much about "when follicles go bad....". Hmmm I guess you can still get a hormone surge and no ovulation which is a bit rubbish if your persona montitor tells you you are ovulating. Had hardly any CM last month though so that was probably why.

We shall see what the dr says.... will post later.

I haven't had any ovarian pain, other than when I ovulate, but I would have though that it was worth while having an ultrasound to rule out a cyst before taking antibiotics? Could also be a hydro on the tube or endometrious?

Thandeka · 15/10/2008 10:07

well thats my doctor for you.

See what the new one says.

hi thandeka,

i've had something similar. that's when i found the rest of my probs.

went to docs re:weird pain that won't go away. was tested for all sorts, and found to have raised liver enyzmes, that aren't high enough to be worried about, this wasn't the pain tho, so was sent for a scan of all internal organs, which showed kidney cysts, still not the pain tho, threw the head up and went private, the doc told me i had pcos, and that the gp was a disgrace for not knowing. had another internal poke about by him and none of these are related to the pain. i still have it and don't know what it is. was put on clomid as ttc and was told everything will hopefully be kicked back into working right again.

still have pain.

if you find out what it is let me know!!

x

Thandeka · 15/10/2008 13:42

Blimey Blondie! Cheers for the headsup. How long have you been TTC? (I dread to think what my liver enzymes would be like...)

I have non of the other indicators for PCOS. (well a bit of top lip fuzz but thats normal right!) my periods are reasonably regular 34 days on average and according to Persona I ovulate every month.

hi thandeka, have been ttc for about 18mts, well that's when i came off contraceptive pill. cycles jumped from 28days to 35-40days, weight shot up (have put on 2 stone since)! flawless skin that i had is now covered on acne (face, neck, back).

was put on clomid and am on day30 of 1st cycle since. trying not to get hopes up just yet incase.

i am at the point of self diagnosis of the pain, all i have read indicates pelvic inflamitory disease. my gp is useless.

good luck with ur investigations and ttc!

Thandeka · 15/10/2008 15:40

wow so the pill was masking it? I have been a natural family planner for last three years and kept records of my cycles for past year to ttc so hopefully that will help with getting diagnosed.

Is yours continuous pain or intermittent? Mine has got worse since I had a good prod! but it isn't all the time.

OP posts:
blondie80 · 15/10/2008 16:45

it's pretty much continuous, although it goes from weak (not v. noticable) to strong (sore)at different times of the day. think i've just got used to it now!

Thandeka · 31/10/2008 10:37

OMIGOD! Went to the doctors today for my scan results and she actually used google to double check what a corpus luteal cyst was. Confidence is not inspired. Am being rescanned in 6 weeks to see if it has gone but its only small and potentially normal post ovulatory one (I thought I missed ovulation as persona didn't pick it up but period is starting today day 34 so I may have ovulated day 20 thus when scanned on day 25 it was there.

Hmmmmm. Hopefully by next scan pain and cyst will be gone.

If cyst is gone but pain still there we are clueless.

OP posts:
Thandeka · 17/11/2008 18:56

man pain went away but now on day 17 of next cycle and OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW this is the worst it has EVER been, I am ovulating today I think and we have had tons of BDing so maybe that has irritated or summat or its extra bad ovulation pain. I have another scan in two weeks on wednesday but what do I do in the meantime? Phoned the docs but I can now defo feel a lump through my tummy on that side. NARGH why does this start to happen now we have started TTC.

Sniff.

Wow i have this same pain, especially as blondie80 describes it. I've had pelvic pain since 2004 - almost 5 years now. Its sore during BD, and throughout my cycle. It varies in intensitity from a slight cramp, to a constant nagging cramp, to sharp nasty pains. I also have very clotted, heavy and painful AF each time.

All i've managed to get is 2 external u/s in 5 years, both of which just showed PCOS. Of course they cannot see PID or endo with a rubbish transabominal scan. I've been trying to get a Lap & Dye for years now but my GYN and Drs are completely useless Im pretty sure i have something awful going on inside me as this has persisted for so long.

I hope you both have better luck on diagnosis, treatment and getting pregnant. Personally im about ready to give up the whole lot as we're running out of time to have a family anyway now.

Thandeka · 06/12/2008 11:07

Well I had my second scan and they said no sign of anything- the corpus luteal cyst was gone and haven't had the pain really at all in last two weeks so fingers crossed its gone got a doctors appt next tuesday to go through this with doctor.
