Wanted ads for egg donation

Hi,

Having seriously considered and now decided to donate some eggs, I wondered if anyone knows where to find some wanted ads. I know the person who puts the ad out doesn't directly receive the eggs but if it puts that someone further up the waiting list it seems an additional way to help someone who's desperate AND proactive rather than just contacting a clinic directly.

You should contact the Assisted Conception Unit at your Local NHS hospital and ask them

answering ads will no doubt get you into a commercial opportunity where you are helping people who have the money to employ someone to place ads, anyone who would take donor eggs is obviously desperate for a baby

unless of course you want to make as much money as possible out of your donation, in which case go for the ads

I personally think by donating eggs you are doing a wonderful service. There is a marked shortage of donors.

I was wondering how old you are (your age was not stated) as this is an important criteria. Eggs will not be taken for the treatment of others from women under the age of 18 or from women over the age of 35 (unless there are exceptional circumstances).

A donor will be given information and offered counselling. She will be required to give her medical history and details of any inherited disease in her family. In addition, a donor will undergo certain medical tests. These vary between clinics, but all donors will be tested for Hepatitis B and HIV antibodies (AIDS). A donor should discuss with the clinician or counsellor what information she wishes to be given following these tests.

Would also suggest you read the www.hfea.gov.uk website as they oversee the clinics regarding all aspects of egg donation. It will also give you as the donor more information.

Oh, I'm not interested in making any money from it. I have just finished making my family (dd 3yo & ds 17 wks) and want to help couples who need eggs. I'm 32 btw.

I just wanted to respond to an ad as I know quoting their ref no puts them further up the list and it's a way of rewarding more people ie those who get the eggs AND the couple who placed the ad.

Keep us informed as it's something I'm interested in too.

i donated eggs just after i had my last child, the fertility clinic at the local hospital should be able to help you, it is worthwhile, my donation resulted in a family having a baby, but it is time consuming traveling ect, but despite the treatmeat and time involved it really is worth it, i had a few letters from the family who recieved my eggs which i will always treasure,
you have to be under 35 , CAT me if you want to know any more.

Anyone who donates eggs is doing a wonderful thing in my opinion.When we were waiting for IVF,I was considering doing it.We never did IVF as we were very lucky to have dd without it,but sadly now I'm too old to donate anyway.

Enough of my waffling on,I have seen ads in the back of parenting/mother & baby mags,appealing for donors.

I wish you loads of luck-you could change someones life unimaginably for the better by being so generous.

Ads are often placed in women's mags, but often they are placed by clinics rather than couples. Your best bet is to contact your local fertility clinic (details of them all are available from www.hfea.org.uk ) and take it from there. Or ask around and see if there is anyone you know who needs a donor, then you can get them bumped up the list. Unless of course you're in Yorkshire, in which case I might send you my own wanted ad. ;)

I originally started this thread a long time ago but thought I'd update you. I contacted the hospital in Manchester and after what seemed like ages I finally started a treatment cycle in Feb this year. Unfortunately it was cancelled on day 8 of stimulation as I 'only' had 7 eggs and they weren't the right size.

I was absolutely gutted. The consultant has given me a card from the potential recipients and I cannot read it without crying my eyes out.

I am now waiting to hear if they (at the hospital) think it's worth trying it again. I'm now 34 1/2 so haven't long left. The whole process has taken much longer than I could have imagined.

And I know it sounds naive but I never imagined I would be joining a couple on their emotional rollercoaster. I am emotionally drained by it and can't even being to imagine how the couple must be feeling.

There are SO few donors that it's such a waste that I couldn't be used. I was prepared for the eggs not resulting in a baby but never for the fact I wouldn't have been able to complete what I'd wanted to do.

I'm looking for a private couple to donate to in the south coast area, but I could possibly travel as far as London for the right person(s).
I've read lots of hit and miss info regarding clinics.
