TTC with underactive Thyroid

Hi, ive been TTC for a while now (also miscarried 5 weeks ago) and im wondering if my underactive thyroid is cause for concern. My GP said its only a problem if its not diagnosed. I have recently had my TFT tested and the results are THS- 0.95 and T3-12.9.

Is there anyone out there who can give me some advice. Me & DH are hoping to get pregnent soon but im worried i'll MC again and if i do i know i will think its because of my UT.

under active thyroid is notorious for conception probs, not only on the womans side, it took 8 months of trying for my ex to get pregnant whilst it is me with the thyroid prob. have you ever had any other probs?
do you bleed for ages when cut or does it stop very quickly?
do you mind saying how young you are?
have you any thyroid associated probs evident now like feeling the cold or the heat, depression, transverse grooves on your finger nails, dry patchy skin, dry, brittle or thinning hair?
other questions if you can answer, do you need to use lubricants because of dryness, is your anus itchy or any digestive probs like excessive wind, smelly poo, constipation or looseness etc?

Hi Misi, i am 27 and have had an underactive thyroid since Sept 06. It was diagnoised after the birth of my son and its unlikely i had it before but thats something i will never know!
I dont have anyother symptoms apart from my hair is thiner im still struggeling to loose weight. I dont have any other symptoms you decribe above.

My most recent pregency which i lost at 9 weeks only took 2 months to conceive and my GP said that as my TFT is at a controlled level she would not link it with the miscarriage. I am just wondering if there are any other women out there that are in the same boat.

Did you go on to have a healthy pregency after conceiving after 8 months? If so was your thyroid level monitored more? How did it change your pregency?

LullyMummaOfOne my ex had a healthy pregnancy apart from one bleed at 6 months which is when she was diagnosed with group b strep. my son was born 10 days late and a healthy 8lbs 3ozs, exactly the same weight as me when I was born!

as you have nothing like I ask above, then it means that a candida problem (which can affect conception and carriage) and a thyroid prob are less likely causes. if you have had more than 3 MC's then it may be prudent to ask your GP to test for hughes syndrome even if it is just to rule it out, and this is a good thing to rule out and I think as a rule, anyone having 3 MC's should automatically be tested.

forgot to add, hughes is statistically more prevalent in thyroid probs than in ''normal'' people which is why I suggested this test to ask for

Thanks Misi, i think its safe to rule out Hughes syndrome also as i have none of the symptoms. However if anything else comes up will be sure to get tested

i am underactive too, sorry to hear of your loss, it's such a stressful time as it is ttc, without the added problems such as UT.
i have heardthat the longer it is left untreated then the more chance you will run into fertility probs.
we are ttc baby no2 just now and onto 4th month now, with no success but just have to keep on trying...it is so heartbreaking doing the tests and then getting BFN all the time...

good luck for the future im sure you'll conceive soon.fingers crossed for you

LullyMummaOfOne still useful to ask for the test, my sister had no outward signs except for miscarrying several times but her Gp suggested the test as something to rule out and found that it was positive.
when we looked at the signs, my mum had several MC's, my aunt died a few weeks after a still birth due to a blood clot, and my nan had a DVT. If my sisters doc had known this he said he would have ordered a test much earlier!! at the moment, my sister is not on meds for hughes as it is not bad enough, but she has been told that if she wants to have another baby, she must go to the doc first and start meds before she tries, somehow after 5 kids, I don't think she will, but then thats what she said after 3
diagnosis is often more of ruling things out to arrive at whats left if that makes sense?
if this test is negative, then you start looking at other things, like scottishmum said, the longer you go undiagnosed thyroid, the more unrepairable damage is done, but there are many things to rule out first that can be reversed or improved.
if you only have one child, have you and your partner been tested for blood groups? if you have incompatable blood types, you often find you can have one baby easy, then any more, your body has built up an anti body to your partners blood and so the feotus can be rejected quite quickly as 'a foreign invader' where your immune system does not suppress like normal, thats another possibility, but there are many more but I always suggest starting at the beginning and the most obvious is hughes as a starter

Thansk for the info, its very helpful to know. On the doctors adive my DH & I are now TTC again after the MC and if i fall pregnant but MC again then futhre tests will be done. My GP siad that as my thyroid level is at a good point there is no reason why we should wait.
My UT was diagnoised very quickly after my son's birth and has been under control sice, there has also been no history of MC in my side of the family but my DH sisters have suffered with one each which was their first pregency, they all went on to have healthy pregencies and babies after.
I have heard of the incompatable blood group thing and i wondered this myself but for now i am happy to wait a few months to see what happend. Fingers crossed i fall pregnant soon and have a healthy pregency just like with DS.

Hi ya I'm new to this post so just getting used to how to use it, I had a missed miscarriage 2 weeks ago and had to have a d and c , I was absolutely heartbroken , we have been trying for 8 months but my cycles are so irregular due to under active thyroid , I'm putting my loss to that because I had my first baby 2 years ago before I got diagnosed and had no problems , my levels have always been tsh 1.8 and when I found out I was pregnant they went to 1.9 so the doc increased my thyroxine from 75mg to 100mg , since my loss they have reduced me back down to 75mg but I had my blood done the other day and my tsh was 0.26 , and my T4 was 22 , the doc said that was high so it looks like I'm having to much thyroxine , I said if I conceived again should I be worried because no one tells me what the safe guidelines are for levels when trying to conceive, I'm so scared of losing another baby , I don't know whether you should try straight away after a d & c or wait a cycle does any one know , so sorry for long post had to get it all out
