Sorry to have to ask but I'm TTC DC3 & really trying for a girl.I know I have to stop sex 5 days before ovulation but guessing for this cycle which day I actually ovulate on.Does anyone know how the cycle goes with mucus as i don't have any books anymore to look it up in.I know I'm ovulating when the mucus is thin clear & stretchy but roughly how many days before that does it stay thick & cloudy for?! Don't really want to spend out on ovulating kits.

i'm no expert, loads of people on here will know. Buy what i do is just wait for the clear stretchy stuff and then go for it. how long you have to wait for it to arrive would depend on your cycle length i guess, with me its about 10 days after start of last period.

why do you have to stop sex 5 days before ovulation?never heard of that. is it a sperm quality thing?

I feel the same about ovulation kits but after quite a few months of trying maybe i should shell out!

Leaky OV kits won't do you any good really, unless you were going to use them for 3 or so cycles to get a good idea of when you OV, so that you would know in cycle 4 when you have to stop having sex IYKWIM?

I think 5 days is a bit too early to stop, I'd say 3, else you could be TTC'ing for a loooooong loooooooooooooooong time!

I think if you don't really know when you're OV'ing the best bet would be to have sex until you see the EWCM, EWCM is a sign of impending OV, so your EWCM could be about for up to 3 days before your actually OV. If you just give it a guess you could miss OV completely.

Also (and I don't mean to sound condesending here but...) you do know that this method of choosing the sex isn't quite as straight forward as it sounds? You could very easily end up with a boy.
