concerns about taking clomid

Hi All,

Having been ttc for the last two years. Went to see my consultant at the hospital for all our test results, and found out that I wasn't ovulating. She has prescribed clomid, but after reading all the literature that came with them, it has made me really nervous about taking them!!. Am I just over reacting or am I right to have concerns?

I wouldn't worry about taking this as this has been prescribed by your cons.

They can have some side effects butimportantly you should also be monitored whilst on this drug treatment. Clomid is quite powerful stuff and no monitoring whilst on this is a no-no. No monitoring means you don't actually know whether its doing its job properly (its supposed to make the ovaries work harder).

Do you actually have a diagnosis of the underlying problem?. I ask this as some women with a condition called polycystic ovaries can be prescribed clomid.

Thanks attila, they can't seem to find anything wrong. I had adehesions removed last year from the pelvic area, while they did that they they also put dye through my tubes to make sure they where not blocked only one side came through, but my consultant was to not worried or concerned about it. Also i will be monitored, will have blood tests on day 21 of each cycle. I was prescribed 3 months worth and told to take 50mg for first month then to up to 100mg on the second and third month. The pharmacist was slightly surprised that i had been given three months worth in one go!

Twinkletoes - Ialso had concerns but did a bit of reading up and came to the conclusion that i would take them as the chances of anything going wrong were very slim. I suffered from a few side effects but it was well worth the result - I got my BFP after 6 months on 100mg. I got my whole 6 month prescription in one go and had just been to see consultant for IVF consultation and 3 more months worth when we found out i was pg. It is not a miracle drug ( I thought 1 month and i would be pregnant! and 6 months later was getting despondant) and although it worked for us - i know people it hasn't worked for. HTH
