Did your PCOS symptoms improve after you had a baby?

And was it quicker to concieve second time round?

DD is 4mos so not plannin anything yet! But I still seem to have the same PCOS problems that I had before (no periods despite not BF for 8 weeks etc.), and as it took us nearly 3 years the first time, it makes me wonder how long I should wait IYSWIM

Sorry, but it's a "no" to both questions for me.

my PCOS are usually better when my weight is reasonable however after dd I was quite heavy and despite bf exclusively I got the first period after 6 months and kept being regular.
that was 3yrs ago but did loose weight over time

I did however have a mc when we tried to conceive, had a few before dd too

The reason I ask is because when I was diagnosed (after not being able to concieve) the dr said that being pregnant often corrects things and to be careful afterwards as once you've concieved once it could happen again quickly

I think it varies massively from person to person.
In my case I have to say no to the first question - my symptoms are the same - and don't know to the second as it took 3+ years to conceive dd but we are seeking medical help with dc2.

I know of people who had PCO but not the S bit until after they had a baby and I know of people whose symptoms all but vanished.
I think your dr could be meaning that you need to be careful in the first few months as your pregnancy hormones will still be affecting you and could suppress the PCOS side of things.
Am no expert tho

My symptoms are better and so far my periods to seem to be regular. I've conceived twice but had two mcs since DS. FIngers crossed though.

I had Clomid to concieve ds. I was not ovulating due to PCOS. Ds is 2.6 and i'm not having regular periods/ovulating. I'm really wanting to have dc2 now so thinking i'm really gonna have to go back to gp soon

i was given metformin by gp to improve my fertility and fell pg with 2nd dc on minipill when dc1 was 9mo. oops silly me!!! dc1 was not planned either so no actual time ttc, but i did spend nearly 7 years ttc with ex h. my mum tried for 9 years for her 1st, then just a few months with 2nd and 3rd. if you want to find out for sure, you could tell gp you are thinking of trying again and get re-tested/scanned etc and compare results with initial diagnosis?

hi, I was meant to go for yet another scan on my ovaries the morning I found out I was pregnant with DD !! Used to have terrible symptoms and nearly pass out with the pain. After having her my symptoms have near enough vanished. Used to have to take pills to control my periods but they are now still heavy but thankfully only last 2 days and am on no medication.
We are currently ttc baby #2 so will have to see what happens there but fingers crossed it will happen as quickly as DD !!

Mine are worse now definately. Have had horrendous problems since having ds including a period which lasted 7 months!

Not really sure how long it took to conceive ds-we were married 9 years and it went from being on the pill, to oh well not a problem if i keep forgetting to take it, to not bothering, to why am i not getting pregnant! Had given up when he was conceived (naturally).

DS is now 3.2 and I have been trying since he was tiny. Am now going on clomid etc so hopefully will have a result.

Up to you but I would not wait too long.

Dummymummy; which minipill were you on? I'm on Micronor and have had some problems with it and don't know if that's part of the bigger issue

cerazette (sp?). apparently it's well-known for falling pg either whilst taking it or immediately after coming off it

Just wanted to add my experience.

I didn't know I even had PCOS until this year. I conceived my DS very quickly, on the 3rd cycle. Pregnancy was great and delivery was easy.

I was always a big girl...but I didn't gain in pregnancy and I even lost a bit of weight in the first 2 months after the birth.

Once DS was 5 months old, suddenly out of nowhere my weight ballooned. I gained 2 stone in a matter of 2 months!

I ignored it thinking it was just my luck.

Anyone we tried ttc no.2 in June last year....In January I was seen at the subfertility clinic. I was diagnosed with PCOS.
After 8 months I fell pregnant naturally, only to MC at 6.5 weeks.

I have been trying now for 16 months and so far no luck.

I have not been given any drugs yet as i have JUST been referred to the PCOS clinic.

So,as far as I can tell, having my DS brought on my PCOS symptoms and ttc no,2 for me his proving much much harder than no.1.

I've posted a few things on other PCOS threads but I've been on Metformin for the past year after seeing a very sympathetic GP and it has definitely regulated my periods.

I've recently upped the dosage after a possible early miscarriage and the gynae said that as soon as I get a BFP i must get my GP to refer me to the local endocrinologist obstetrician because stayhing on Met for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy dramatically reduces the risk of miscarriage.

I went on holiday and forgot to take the Met with me which could be a reason i miscarried early.

It baffles me why women aren't being prescribed Met as routine when it's changed so many women's lives (mine included).

cupcakeandtea; my fertility dr rushed point blank to prescribe anything until I showed evidence of weight loss (I'd already lost half a atone)

She said not to come back for 6 months, I lost another stone and a week before the appt they postponed it...for 4 months
