Cycle after Miscarriage-no EWCM, can anyone help

I had a missed miscarriage then a D&C. Got my first period exactly 28 days after the D&C. My normal cycle is a very regular 28 days so I was really pleased and thought it was a good sign that things were getting back to normal.

Now I'm in the middle of my cycle and have had no EWCM at all. Normally I have loads and feel really fertile. I'm just really dry - no mucus at all. Does this mean I'm not ovulating?

Pretty disappointed as I'd read so many stories of 'increased fertility' straight after miscarriage/D&C. Dh and I have been enthusiastically trying nevertheless but I don't feel very hopeful for this month . Can anyone help?

Have you tried an ovulation test? I conceived both dd and ds the month after a miscarriage but without a d&c both times. Sometimes it takes a month or so for your hormone levels return to levels which would trigger ovulation though. So don't panic, there is always next month

Thanks for replying. I haven't tried ov tests as I've never managed to get a positive result on them before and I'm loath to spend the money. I felt like I knew my cycle really well before and now this time its just not the same. I want to be cool and relax and not stress about it - thats what Dh wants me to do. I'm just feeling really 'let down' by my body.

Some months I just don't get much EWCM. The last time I conceived I didn't have much at all.

Are you sure you are properly hydrated in this heat? Dehydration could affect this.

Yes I thought about that - I do drink quite a bit though. One thing that may affect it - I've had this really odd cold/allergy thing where I've been full of mucus (ironically!) in my nose/sinuses and my chest but only in the evening and at night, I'm fine during the day. Not sure what is causing that but maybe I'm generating so much mucus up top there's none left for my bits!

Obviously there's nothing I can do about it either way apart from keep having sex and hoping for the best.

Sorry if this is too much info but I just feel very dry compared to how I ususally feel and sex has even been a bit sore. All to do with the miscarriage do you think? Maybe I should post in 'Miscarriage'.

Were you far along when you miscarried?
I don't know whether the dryness is connected to the mc - although I guess if it is your first cycle after mc you might be ovulating later than normal...
If you keep feeling dry maybe get some Preseed?

I had a D&C after a miscarriage. First period arrived after about 4 weeks and then next one took 5-6 weeks (bit chaotic after mc). So it may be possible that you are feeling dry because you haven't ovulated yet and your periods going to be a bit late. For what its worth i did use ovulation tests the following month and they never showed that i ovulated - however that was the month i got pregnant.

Oh and your not taking anything for your cold / allergy are you - because it can effect CM.

Scary the mmc was discovered at 12 weeks although the foetus died around 7 weeks.

Lcy no I'm not taking anything for the cold. And thank you for your response - you're experience sounded very similar to mine (so far!). Here's hoping I'm as successful in conceiving again.

Interesting that you both mention ovulating later than normal - that gives me hope. I assumed that because my first period came after 28 days that I would be 'back on track' straight away. May be I'm going to ovulate a bit later this time, fingers crossed. That would also fit in with the differences I noticed when I got my period. It lasted much longer than normal and even when I'd finished I kept having the odd bit of spotting. Maybe for some reason this cycle is taking a bit longer to get going.

I think I'm just despondent because I've always had such regular cycles in the past. But then I've never had a miscarriage before.

I had a missed MC and ERPC for it.

Had one cycle about 8 weeks later, then a cycle with no ewcm or any sign of ovulation.

I'm now 26 weeks pregnant from that cycle.

Oh I'm sorry.
It is a lot for your body to deal with and if you are a bit under the weather it is entirely possible that you might ovulate a bit late.

Sometimes I also think that if my period lasts longer I ovulate later, so maybe there is something in that.

I really feel for you. After my miscarriage (at 11 weeks but baby had died at 7 weeks) i felt a desperate need to get pregnant again. It will happen. Everything you describe is normal - your body is just getting itself settled again.

Hairytoe - EWCM can be influenced by an awful lot of things - including hydration levels, if it's hot you will produce less bodily fluids (yes I know, duh!)

Also I found I didn't have any when I conceived DS because I was breastfeeding. Didn't stop him arriving though.

Also finally ebay sell very cheap OPK tests and they work just as well. Mind you I never got positive results on them either. Just some people find them reassuring.

Either way, just keep on top of....well just carry on with what you are doing and be hopeful, there is no reason you shouldn't conceive and carry to term.

Hi, i had an early mc at the end of May, then had an AF about 21 days later which was early but i thought the same as you, phew at least that means i'm back on track. This is now my first cycle after and normally i 'feel' when i OV (i get a sharp pain in my side and feel bloated for a day) and get EWCM a day or so before, this month i didn't get any of those so i thought the same as you - it't not happening this time! but here i am on day 32, no AF (yet) and lots of symptoms .... but i did have a small bleed at 21 days again so am hoping that was a heavy implantation not that i have a new 21 day cycle!

Am going to test on Friday so will report back - i hope this gives you some hope .... esp if it's good news!

Try not to worry, my Dr said you could notice a few changes over the next few months but that once your AF arrives there is no reason for your body not to release an egg as there won't be any hormones (or not enough) to affect you ov.

and Heebychick - thanks for posting its good to hear other people have had similar experiences after a miscarriage. Trying to relax and not worry but feeling a bit frustrated. Glad to hear things are looking positive for you - I'll keep my fingers crossed you get some good news!

Hi, I too had a natural mc at end of May due to a blighted ovum at 9 weeks. Like you first period exactly 28 days later, really srong ov signs during that "cycle" too.

1st proper cycle after mc, I waited for ewcm, and waited - nothing at all. Thought it was going to be really late, but finally got period at 21 days (previously 28 day cycle).

This month however seems to be back to normal, should be due Af at weekend or BFP

So hang in there and your body should sort itself out.
