How often to do the deed?

Well for the last 3 months or so (following an early MC in March) we've been trying the whole "let's not think about it, what will be will be" and nada.

So this month I'm actually looking at dates, planning etc. My question is this... (and I cringe at all the detail but I know you will understand!)

AF arrived on 11th July so I guess OV should be around this Friday or so. So when and how often should we be doing the deed to try and get lucky?

Can anyone help?

I have heard suggestions of every day or every other day, I seem to remember it depends on your DPs sperm count, if they have lots of swimmers go for it every day, but if not then every other. Can't remember where I read this though, and it was a while ago as DS is 2 now so could have all changed by now! A good book on knowing your cycle to help conceive/or avoid conceiving is "Taking Charge of your fertility", its a huge book though so would prob take a few months to get through it but will help you understand your cycle and the best days for doing the deed!!

Aha - is that what OPK stands for? Have seen that on some of the TTC threads but wasn't sure. Do you get them in Boots?

We did morning and evening from day 11 through to day 20 (well, as much as we could). Took 3 goes. This time round inadvertantly did the deed unprotected on the morning of day 13, (first time in months and not planning a baby and am now 14 wks pregnant).

Congratulations!!! I'm tempted to hold off and try every other night. It feels horrible though - so clinical.

Buy them online off ebay if you can RipMacWinkle. Really don't cost much at all.Not sure how accurate they are though.

Get some kinky reading and some porn . I loved the feeling that we were trying to make a baby, but it does get a bit monotonous.

Please do not go down the timing intercourse route. It can do more harm than good and it can also put pressure on you.

Make love when you both feel like it - two or three times a week throughout the month is fine.

Ovulation is not an exact science - you can ovulate earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle. It is therefore NOT the case at all that a woman ovulates two weeks before the start of her next period!!.

If your periods are irregular in nature avoid using ovulation predictor kits at all costs. Spend the cash on something else instead!!.

How long have you been ttc Rip?

I have been pg twice in the last 4 months. The first time we had sex once during my fertile window (3 days before ov). The second time we had sex 2,3 and 4 days before ov and the day of ovulation itself. So totally different approaches, both got a result (neither was viable, but that's a different story).

I have to say though that I do identify my fertile time, as well as trying to have a bit of sex outside of it. In my case, I have been pregnant a total of 3 times and each time it has been from sex when I have known I was fertile. Of course there have also been lots of months (20 or so) when we have tried and got a BFN notwithstanding good timing...

RipMacWinkle - yes you can get ovulation sticks and early pregnancy tests quite cheaply off ebay.My sister has used them and found them very useful. I have tried them for the last 2 months.I am a control freak myself so need to know as much about what is going on as I can.
You do get obsessed but if you really want a baby you can be obsessed with test sitcks or without them.
Fourlittlefeet - I know what you mean.I have a 3 yr old and a 4 yr old and sometimes by the end of the day I am so knackered the last thing I want to do is "the business".I really must think of new ways to get things hotting up in that department.
