Start Clomid next month - anything I should know?

Hi

Had my first appointment in the fertility clinic with my consultant yeserday, having now moved across from gynae.

The hysteroscopies and hormone treatment have done their job. There are no more adhesions and everything is clear. All other tests and scans are normal too. So, theorectically there is nothing to stop me from getting pregnant now - lol, wish my body realised this as it is now nearly 4 years since TTC #2!

So, my consultant has prescribed 6 months of Clomid to give me an increased chance. I start them next month, days 2-6 of my cycle.

So, all Clomid users- what are your advice and tips regards what to expect when using Clomid?

Also, any lovely success stories appreciated too BUt not multiple birth ones - DH is still freaking about that bit, lol!)

TIA

Hold on I just need to sort out the sextuplets I will be right back and let you know.

BreeVanderCampLGJ · 15/07/2008 08:15

Come on, take the bait.

BreeVanderCampLGJ · 15/07/2008 08:18

This board is moving too quickly, I need to go to work.

Seriously, I found it very effective in a removed sort of way.

I collected my prescription, put in the bathroom cabinet with the express intention of starting it once we had moved house.

I guess I must have relaxed, because I was pregnant within four months and the clomid was still in the bathroom cabinet.

Good Luck.

Hula

You need MN Towers to look at this thread. Even though I am posting on it, it is not showing in the main active convo's so you may not get as many responses as you had hoped for.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 15/07/2008 09:30

Clomid should ideally be given only if there is definitive proof that you are not ovulating.

Its quite powerful stuff; you should be monitored whilst on it with blood tests (it does affect hormone levels) and ultrasounds). No monitoring is a no-no as you will have no way of knowing whether its doing what its supposed to (it encourages the ovaries to work harder).

Hulababy · 15/07/2008 18:24

LOL Bree - sorry had to go out not long after posting.

Attilla - my consultant has been very thorough and is an expert in this field. I know others who have used him and he is highly rated. So, hopefully, his advice of what we will go through, tc. so far will be okay. Not much I can do about it anyway for no, s fingers crossed.

Indeed.........

saltcod · 15/07/2008 21:37

Hiya, I took mine on days 2-6 (secondary infertility), also took them last thing at night to "minimise" mood swings etc, but was still a narky cow, so not sure if that made any difference or not

Happily, I was a clomid success story - it worked for me on 3rd 50mg cycle. Good luck

saltcod · 15/07/2008 21:38

Oh, and only a "single" DS... no multiple births (I was freaking out about that one too!)

Hulababy · 15/07/2008 21:41

Thanks - success stories are good especially non multiple ones, lol!

Will bear in mind the taking them at night bit. Have recently had heavy doses of oestrogen and progestrogen following my two hysteroscopies for Asherman's and they sent me a bt odd - so happy to avoid additional mood swings! (as is DH )

Hi I have PCOS and was prescribed clomid and concieved ds (now 2.5) on cycle 3. I had no side effects at all with it but some people do.

Good luck

pootleflump · 15/07/2008 21:48

No tips I'm afraid, I got pg on my first round of 50mg, had no side effects and no multiples here! Good luck.

Hulababy · 15/07/2008 21:57

Mine is 50mg too - lowest dose I think isn;t it?

Feeling somewhat terrified at thougt of being pregnant now, lol! 4 years in the planning, and very 6 years since DD came along - if I do finally get pregnant I am sre I won;t have a clue.

Just looked at mine (still got some left) and i had 50mg too from day 2 of the cycle for 5 days.

Hulababy · 23/07/2008 20:24

Well, I take my first one today...here goes...

Good luck

(sorry if i kill your thread again. I often do)

Hulababy · 05/01/2009 20:49

Well, that's that then. Month 6 over and done with.

So, it's over I guess. Don't thing I have any more steps to take, other than leaving things to nature alone.

Next consultant appointment been rearranged twice and now not until first week in February.

So, over 4y of TTC, 2 ops, too many hormones to think about, and 6 months of Clomid with all that's lovely side effects, a total of 20 weeks off work due to various side effects...and nothing. Nothing at all, not even a slight hint of anything working.

Oh well....
