Did anyone have low hard cervix and bfn at 9 dpo but go on to be pregnant?

Hi Gemzooks,

This is going to see a really stupid question, but I'm only in my first month of TTC#1, but how would I know if my Cervix was low and hard?!!

I would think (from all the other threads I've read) that getting a BFN that much before your AF isn't that unusual. I would suggest trying again nearer the time....

xx

PS: I'm coming to the conclusion that at 34, I still know nothing about my body!!!

hi Dawn,

Well, I would never have dreamed of checking my cervix before I got preg with DS and had a miscarriage scare. Basically, if you rummage around in there you can feel it towards one side at the back, like a kind of rubbery stopper or something, with a groove in the middle which opens into the womb. and it is a guide to whether you're fertile or not and how close to AF you are. There's loads of stuff on the internet on how to do it. Basically, around ovulation it is high and soft, and before and after AF it is hard and low, easy to feel. The classic thing is if it feels like the tip of your nose or your lips, with the harder feel meaning you're not fertile or in a pre or post AF phase. In early preg it should go high and soft, so that's why I've been checking.. you should be careful to wash hands well though if you do check. Prob others know more... all very much getting in touch with one's body!

Gosh!!

Well, I'll have to have a go at that, although maybe I'll get DH to do it.... Probably sounds worse than doing it yourself but I think I'd actually prefer it. He's probably been there more than I have so may know how it normally feels - ha ha!!!

Thanks for the biology lesson. I'm now thinking that my school reports were right when they said "does not pay enough attention in class"....

xx

good luck! I've never been able to find mine!

Gemzooks · 14/07/2008 12:14

when I was in labour a horrible student doctor couldn't find it and got really accusing. She said, well where is it! Like I'd hidden it or something! I felt like saying, well you're the f*ing doctor!

cervix position in early pg isn't a reliable sign though - can take ages after conception (like weeks) to change to a 'pregnant' position & texture for some women (obsessive googler here). Mine was high and hard the week I found I was pg with DS - I should know, I was obsessively checking for my period every hour!

I was an ardent cervical position-checker when ttc, to spot ovulation, but it didn't apply after ovulation I have to say.

It did different things each month and, the month I was pregnant, was medium & firm about 8dpo and low at about 11dpo (I got +ve next day).

9dpo a bit early to be testing in my opinion.

thanks for answers!

Conceived DS (21 months) 1st try, then stopped bf when he was one and conceived straight away, m/c at 8 weeks, then conceived straight away and m/c at 12 weeks which was really grim, then tried last month and negative, and tried this month, so 2nd month of trying.. Just feel much more nervous now after m/c as I was very blase before...
