ttc with a slightly older dh

I am 33 this year and dh is 42. Having scared ourselves silly with all the talk earlier this week on how older men have a lower quality dna post 35 years, we kind of thought rather than waiting the few months till the end of the year we might start now. Has anyone any expreience with concieving with an older dh/dw? We fell pretty quickly with the first two but I am a little concerned now tbh

wtf? what talk of how older men have lower quality DNA ... this wouldn't be another meeja scaremongering that passed me by would it?

Men are famous for being fertile late in their lives ..

there are 3 factors in a male sperm count by the way

absolute numbers of spermatazoa per sample
motility - how they move and in which direction
morphology - numbers of 'normal sperm' which is normally in the low percentages

it is a combination of these 3 factors that denotes fertility of a sample

so for example, because of medication my DH was taking the number of his 'abnormal sperm' was much higher than 'normal' .. but he also had a higher than average 'absolute number' of sperm so same chance of

oh thats good then. i was terrified when I saw the lunchtime news on monday. They were basically saying that contrary to popular belief males sperm quality deteriorates over time from the age of 35. And this was not the first study...aparently

Hi we have no children yet. I'm 31 and husband 40... his perm tests show great spunk though admittedly it was only a home-testing kit. It takes two after all. After how long ttc can take it doesn't seem a bad idea to start sooner... as long as you're not worrying too much about it that is! best of luck mrsleroyjethrogibbs... i've no crazy stories of olds conceiving but if you've done it before you can do the magic again i'm sure.

mrsleroy..that article was based on men at a fertility clinic so you do have to ask if it was a decent sample given that you're only going to be at clinic if you have problems.

And I'm 35/dh 49 and daughter born 2 weeks ago (after 2 m/c and a tx) - it did take 3 years to get here but at no point did any of the specialists we saw say anything re dh age... so hang on in there

oh phew. this is so reassuring. TBH I was 28 and dh was 38 when dd was concieved, he was 40 when ds was concieved. so in that sense we didnt have any probs concieving two healthy gorgous children. tbh we fell in the first month (but dh had given up smoking which I think had a big factor) so I dont think we are not as fertile as such. I was just concerned more than anything.
