Help - Coil dislodged could I be pregnant

Feel really stupid for not knowing this.
My coil came out yesterday (yuk). Does this mean it will have been 'on its way out' for a while and therefore not working properly? Surely I'd have noticed?! Could I be pregnant?

I was really hoping I'd be deluged with 'no way' messages and wouldn't have to call the family planning - which makes it all seem more possible iykwim. And I'm at work in an open plan office.....

Let us know what they said. I am due to have a coil put in on Friday as I thought they were quite reliable.

Ok I'm advised I could be pregnant and need to wait three weeks to make sure I'm not before I have another coil fitted. This is because any pregnancy won't show up for three weeks. I am worried because I thought period was starting and apart from a bit of spotting - it hasn't.

pinkwebby they are reliable but just before period is a time when they tend to go (if they are going to) because of uterus contracting

I had one fitted and when I went for a scan of ovaries told them I had a coil in and they didn't believe me because they couldnt see it it was there but had moved

Anyway I was supposed to have it taken out by GP but took out myself.
