hi all

i just tested with one and no visible line at 3 mins, but at about 5-10 mins there was a really faint pink line...do you think this could be a bfp? am going mad thinking about it!

i've obviously convinced myself i have loads of symptoms already, but AF due Tues/Wed and have had 3 bfn's already over the weekend...

any advice appreciated!

BFP. congrats

PussinJimmyChoos · 07/07/2008 14:00

It could be an evaporation line. Did they say how long after reading it to IGNORE anything you may see??

busylady · 07/07/2008 14:32

i can't remember - but will check when i go back to my car before i leave work.....i did think it could be an evap line, but it was pink and wasn't sure if that made any difference?

I'm trying not to get your hopes up here! Generally they say to ignore any results after a certain time has gone past so I think you need to look at the time elapsed when you saw the line iyswim?

I do feel for you - I'd be going mad in the same situation too!! I had 2 bfn before my BFP with DS - and he's now 2!!

PussinJimmyChoos · 07/07/2008 14:44

Just found this on the First Response website:

Will the result change if left standing for a certain period of time?

The test should be read as soon as possible after waiting the three minutes. A positive result will last for at least 48 hours. However, a negative result may not last and should not be read after 10 minutes.

busylady · 07/07/2008 14:47

thnaks for that - i did look on the website, but maybe not hard enough! will retest tomorrow and let you know

Did you retest??

busylady · 08/07/2008 11:22

hiya,

yeah i did with fmu and had a similar line at 5 mins, am convinced af is on her way but will hold off testing again. af is due today so was thinking that if i was pg it would have definitely showed the result as a bfp this morning, but alas no!

will keep the thread informed

Another line at 5mins....very confusing! Mind you, I tested on day period was due and got bfn with DS - the bfp only came about 4 days later but was very clear and quick....

Can you try another test - Superdrugs home brand are cheap and good imo

busylady · 08/07/2008 11:41

i might pick one up, i just checked my dates when i had my first baby and i didnt test until cd32 (and it was with cb digital)! am on cd 28 today so maybe i don't produce enough hormone in the early stages??? could that be feasible?

ta!

OP posts:
PussinJimmyChoos · 08/07/2008 11:46

Yes its entirely possible for the level of hormone to not be at detectable levels yet. I was in Spain when my period was due with DS and I was gutted at the two negative tests! I had a show that was implantation bleeding on the Thursday (was due the Wed) but I didn't realise it at the time and thought being on hol had messed my period up. It wasn't until the Saturday around 5pm when period hadn't turned up properly that I tested and got bfp!

I'm probably not helping you really am I...getting your hopes up etc!

theinsider · 08/07/2008 14:56

Hi busylady.

Not really sure where your disbelief is coming from. You've had two positive pregnancy tests, pink lines, within less than ten minutes (the second by five minutes). You are pregnant. I'm all for keeping testing to confirm and confirm it, but I don't think there is much doubt you are pregnant. If your period was only due todayish then the line would be fairly faint and taking a few minutes to show.

I can see you might not want to get too excited until your period is officially late as it could theoretically become a chemical pregnancy, but two positive tests = pregnant.

Congratulations. What're you gonna call it?

MKG · 08/07/2008 16:01

Busylady, I had this same issue with first response last week. I tested in the morning and couldn't see a line so I put the test aside, and a few hours later I went to throw it away and noticed a very faint line, so I read the directions and it said that a positive stays for 48 hours and a negative shouldn't be read after 10 minutes. So I did another one and again got a very faint line (really had to check it) So I went and got a different brand and yup, was positive.

babyhollie · 08/07/2008 18:46

hello there.. well I rang first response up and said even if it is a shadow it is a positive.. there are however two types of testers one for testing 6 days early and the other 4 days early.. the one i used yesterday was a 4 day and the ones today a 6 days prior. I was due on the 5th so late now.. I did however use a clear blue ordinary this morning and was negative.. the lady at first reponse though said the 5 dAY AND the digital clear blue rely on 25 of the hormone where as the ordinary clear blue just 50... so well i am due in march.. very scared!

busylady · 09/07/2008 09:47

just thought i'd add that i used a CB digital yesterday (afternoon) and it said not pg, but used the FR early again this morning and the V faint line came up again within 3 minutes....i can see it, but i took a pic and you can't really see it on there. was thinking that there are a few occasions when we DTD across the week that i think i was ov'ing so might be a bit early still...

i do feel a bit different, period type pains, and a bit of toothache!

anyway, if af appears i've got my CB fertility monitor to start using.

Hi ya,
I did a FR early test this morning, & got a faint shadow of a line, you can just see when in natural daylight. I'm 9/10 dpo. It definitely came up in 3 mins, but seemed to be grey in colour so prob an evap line? AArgh! I've had loads of symptoms, but well aware it could be my mind playing tricks. Don't know what to think. Keep updating, hopefully these faint lines will get darker!

busylady · 09/07/2008 11:11

yeah, in the meantime costing me a small fortune, wish i'd bought a massive batch of cheapies on ebay!

OP posts:
m0nkeynuts · 09/07/2008 11:38

I almost always get lines on cheapies if I look hard enough though!!

I got this yesterday www.canyouseealine.com/view_home_pregnancy_test.cfm?action=Invert&testID=342 but FR is stark white BFN ... no matter how hard I stare at it!

Sounds promising for you both!

busylady, I think FR are more sensitive than digis, so it would make sense that digi might still read 'not pregnant'

citybranch - if it came up within 3 minutes, it's not likely to be an evap! In the past, my early lines looked more grey than pink ... keep testing!!

citybranch · 10/07/2008 13:30

Got v. faint BFPs on FR and superdrugs own today! but a BFN of clearblue digi, so almost like i can't get excited till i see it on the digi!

m0nkeynuts · 10/07/2008 13:32

Ooh how EXCITING!! I'm sure the digi will be positive in a day or two!!!

ScaryHairy · 10/07/2008 15:04

Citybranch - you sound like me.
I have had - 2 feint positives on FR (yesterday and today)
BFN on CBD
BFN on Superdrug cheapie

I am only 10dpo and did not use FMU on Superdrug or CBD so would like to think that is the issue!

I know what you mean about CBD, somehow it makes it "official".

busylady · 11/07/2008 08:54

m0nkeynuts · 11/07/2008 09:01

Oh no!! Sorry the witch found you

AF due for me on Monday.

Good luck with the CBFM this cycle - I've heard good things about it!

theinsider · 11/07/2008 09:17

oh busylady what a bummer. I was watching hopefully for your official announcement. As you say, that's the problem with testing early. So sorry.

Well, onwards and upwards with the CBFM. I never used one but people seem to reckon they get pregnant very quickly using it.

Good luck.

Boco2 · 15/10/2014 23:25

Hi,

I wanted to share my experiences of First Response pregnancy tests. I have used them on two separate occasions. The first time I got two faint lines on two consecutive days leading me to believe I was pregnant - I went to the local Women's Health Unit for a pregnancy test to confirm this and I wasn't pregnant so the test results were wrong.

I used the tests again this week (2 months after a miscarriage) and again got a faint second line (to my distress my period arrived later that day). I would advise against using this product as I don't feel it gives an accurate result at all. I spent most of this Saturday in tears having got my hopes up that I might be pregnant again. Trying to conceive is hard, even harder after a miscarriage - a product that claims to be super-sensitive and accurate before your period is due and then gives you false positives really shouldn't be on the market. I certainly won't buy this product again. Best of luck to you all with trying to conceive - may you get a positive result very soon.
