Is it too soon?

Hello ladies,

Firstly i would like to send my thanks to those of you who helped me through my pregnacy, especially when i was two weeks over due and getting very uncomfortable.

Anyway my little boy: Jack, is now 8 months old and my other half and I have been discussing having a second baby, I am currently on the depo injection and am aware it may take a year to conceive due to this. I would like roughly an 18 - 24 months age gap. my next injection is 23rd July and i am considering not going for it, do you think it is too soon or shall i go for this one then come off?

Opinions please? also am i right in thinking it will probably take a year to conceive??

Personally I dont like the idea of short gaps, you can never get that time again with your first.

I loved all the fun just me and dd had, just us too on days out. When she was two we would leave the pram at home and go on trains.

All her friends were single siblings too so we had great days out and it was SO much easier than having two.

My second came along when she was three and its different.

More fun of course and they love playing together now 5 and 2 years. But going anywhere is a mission.

I am glad that dd and I had that time, plus when dd2 came dd1 was able to understand so much and it made life easier.

I always feel sorry seeing the older sibling only 18mths crying next to mummy whilst she is dealing with baby, they just dont understand.

But the upside is they dont have any memories of these early years so its only going to be hard for the first year or two.

If you dont need to rush it then I would wait.

I notice where I live alot of the mums have started older like 32 or above and they are al sqeezing in two close together.

It just looks like such harder work.

hey, thank you for your response, i understand where you are coming from completely. I am only 23 and have no need to rush, after reading your reply i think i may wait a little while. I will read what you say to my other half too as he would really like another one.

I was 24 when I had my first dd so I didnt feel rushed either.

It really is a special time with your first because its just the two of you during the day.

You can play as much as you want and give as much of your time to them.

The slightly older they are will be more exciting for them to get a little brother or sister too and they can be your little helper which actually comes in handy passing you nappies etc...

We wanted our kids close in age so DC#1 was 7 months old when we conceived DC#2.

Of course it's hard work at times (isn't it always hard work sometimes no matter how many kids you have??!), but you adjust - it's not impossible!! Both our kids are very happy and well adjusted (no real jealousy issues) - they both get plenty of one-on-one time as well. The older one (2.5) still manages to walk when we're out instead of always being in the pram ... it's amazing how quickly you can learn to control a pram with one hand and a toddler with the other They even NAP at the same time - hurray

So, yes, it can be hard work and it's not suited to everyone, but we love it and wouldn't have it any other way
