Six months TTC, now what?

Hi everyone,

The advice on the internet is overwhelming, so I thought I'd ask here. I conceived quickly with my daughter, the first month of trying. Now I am 34 and it has been six months. I know trying for a year is within the normal scope, but I am mindful of our preferred age gap and that time is ticking.

Have had negatives for six cycles... What now? I am already doing ovulation sticks and apparently tracking. Should I be doing anything else?

Thank you in advance

Just kept waiting. Our second took a year to conceive

You wait and you keep busy. Might be worth laying off the sticks for a few months and just have sex every 1-2 days around middle of your cycles. “Preferred age gap” is wildly privileged to say. Blows my mind anyone plans these things

I think it depends how desperate you are to get pregnant at this stage. If it’s a ‘nice to have’ then keep trying for another 6/12 and if no luck then see your GP about a potentially referral onto NHS fertility services if you meet local criteria (and then there will be a wait).

The other option is seeking a private assessment of your/DP fertility status, either now or in the future.

If you have money you could look into private fertility tests and IVF if you’re desperate for a possibly quicker result. The chances that you’ll be approved for NHS IVF is slim considering you already have a child. But if money isn’t an issue then look into privately. Personally, at 34, I’d just wait at least another 6 months before considering that but it’s up to you.
