Hello ladies, so im after some positive stories. We are currently TTC #3 (#2 for partner) im older at 37 and quite a bit heavier. However.... I dont look the weight im supposed to be (people often guess a good 3/4stone lighter than I am)
Don't get me wrong im a bigger girl but I would say im huge.

I guess im after some positive stories from my curvy girls who got pregnant and what you did to help, how long it took etc

Honestly it probably depends on how curvy curvy is. There’s been studies to show a bmi of over 30 has a detrimental impact on fertility and a much bigger one over 35, which is why even private ivf clinics often won’t let you pay for treatment until your weight is down (along with the surgery risks). Being a size 16-18 it’s probably minimal, being a size 30 much more, both fall under the curvy umbrella.

it’s all % impact on a population level though, plenty of people still get pregnant and stay pregnant with no issues, it just reduces your chances. There’s a reason a huge number of people get pregnant on mounjaro after infertility, although that’s probably going to cause its own issues.

Both pregnancies I had a BMI between 30-35 (my age also 30-35) and I conceived on third and first cycles respectively.

What is your BMI OP? Were you this big when you conceived your other children?
1 thing to be aware of is taking a 5mg dose of folic acid if overweight, not the over counter 400mcg dose. Your GP can prescribe the bigger dose or I think you can buy it online.

I started TTC age 33. I was overweight, not obese, and TTC 4yrs. I had a stressful job and also travelled alot for work, so can't say we TTC every month. I left the job, DH and I both tried getting fitter and both lost 10kg and I conceived. sadly I had my 1st MC. I can't say it was the weight loss, it might have been the lack of stress but I would certainly try loosing some weight before TTC. The excess weight can play havoc with hormones and affect fertility far more than I think people realise. I've since also worked in fertility services. Wishing you the best of luck though.

@5289843DM apologies. Yes already taking 5mg. I was about 15st with my second..... much younger and skinnier with my first.
My BMI says 36.6, being honest id say boob's are a stone at least (H) so if I deduct that im under 35..... i know i need to shift the weight. Just having a.... panic moment i guess

Hey OP good luck in your journey. Just to let you know, I am pregnant with my second my booking BMI was 33. In my first pregnancy it was the same, they said I should have a higher dose of folic acid than they recommend for women of a healthy BMI. That was the advice then. Two years later now and the midwife says the national guidelines and research have changed around folic acid so you just need the standard dose and not the bigger one even if you are obese. So folic acid wise you are covered fine 😊

I got pregnant on first cycle with my first baby and 3rd cycle with this pregnancy. I had the blood glucose tolerance test with my first as they offered me that as standard for my BMI, no issues was all fine. I am having it again with this pregnancy. I have always been on the heavier side but very active go to gym lift weights etc and just keep up my activity level during pregnancy. No issues with growth of babies at a higher BMI... I think weight is important and can have an impact on fertility but like a previous poster said all these things should be taken on an individual basis as so many factors contribute xx

*no issues with growth of my baby, I know that obesity can be a risk factor for larger babies but so far I have been okay. First was just over 7 pounds and this one is measuring 50th percentile so far.

TinyBitChaotic · 10/09/2026 18:43

I was a bigger girl with my DD. My BMi was 37. Had no issue getting pregnant, had a very straightforward low risk pregnancy and delivery. Baby was 50% centile. So for me it played no role whatsoever.
