Going back on bc

Im 42. We tried having another baby and decided to give up now after 1 yr. I want to go back on bc but my hb doesnt see the use - as we didnt succeed - i think he wants to leave chances open.
But in a way, I want to move on and not have to watch all I eat, no drinks etc…
Don’t really know to tackle this one without hurting his feelings.
Anyone having tips or advice on this?

Could you just act as normal and just think about what you eat or drink if af is late at any point?
or do you not want a baby anymore and want to close the door completely on this? if so you just have to tell him I think. It’s your body, it’s you taking vitamins or worrying or taking bc or you carrying a pregnancy, you can make that decision without his say so
but he has a right to know you don’t want a baby if that’s the case. I think it’s going to hurt his feelings if he wants a baby though I don’t think there’s any getting round that unfortunately
but obviously you know you can’t risk having a baby you don’t want just to protect his feelings
