hiya , i'm considering donating my eggs to a family member that is struggling to conceve. just want to know from any one who has been through it, how it effected you emotionally? i have thoughts, obviously, of how i would feel, but would like reality check.

You need to read the HFEA's website as these people regulate this:-

www.hfea.gov.uk/en/1205.html, this page is also helpful.

You also need to be 35 or younger.

i have 2 friends who have use donor eggs (anonymous). One had a dc a year ago, one is pregnant. It's an amazing gift. Just make sure you're really clear in your head about the relationship and how you might feel about that child. It's an incredible, generous and life-changing gift.

Me! I've done it for my sister at the end of last year. She is now pregnant. Am so glad I was able to do it, and feel utterly delighted that it worked! Important things to consider - do you feel you have 'completed' your own family, would you (both couples) want it to be open (rather than a secret)? Of course i can't tell how I'll feel when the baby arrives, but so far it feels completely 'right'. I don't in any way, shape or form, feel that this is 'my' baby.... it is completely theirs, and I'm just very happy for them.
For known donors (such as yourself) they are more lenient re the age limit. I was 38 when I did it (but have 2 young children - so evidence of recent fertility).
There is lots of info on the fertilityfriends website (look at the thread re donation). I post there under the name
c l u c k c l u c k , and have written a diary re the whole process, which hopefully will be useful to others considering it.
good luck your decision!

madcows.....thats fantastic news!! im so thrilled for your sister. and i think your amazing too. feel bit muddled now cos when i saw meerkat's posting that i needed to be 35 or younger i just thought, ok thats me out then! but then read madcows and felt relief. not sure how to interpret my initial feelings. i have completed my family, but close friend just found it she having girl after 2 boys and i got a bit broudy!!
so my only prob may be if the egg i donate results in a girl. not sure how i would feel. but then i have 2ds, so if it was a girl that would be quite nice. i'm not wanting anymore and have no drive to strive for a girl.husband wouldnt want one either, baby that is. he has nothing against girls, lol
