Just looking for inspiration really. I'm 43 and about to give up. Come out of the woodwork and cheer us all up with mature ladies' conception stories. Only the over 40's need apply !!!!

Don't give up! I'm not over 40 but I know someone who's 43 and pregnant with her second, and I know someone who just gave birth aged 44.

My mum had me at 41, my sister at 42 and a miscarriage at 43, all completely natural and my older siblings all in her mid to late 30s. As a result, I think that not only can older women get pregnant but they make great mums too

elakesh · 28/05/2010 09:06

I'm 43 and have just found out I'm pregnant again. I already have 5 children, the eldest is 19, the youngest 3. I'll be 44 when the baby comes. My mum had me at 46.

squirrel3 · 29/05/2010 15:00

I am considering another child and I am 45, I thought it was crazy and it couldn't possibly happen but reading this thread has given me hope.

There was a woman who was in the same maternity ward as I was when I had my daughter (who is now grown up) and she had just had a baby, she was 55! She thought she had gone through the change so anything is possible

I wish everyone luck with having that precious child

TIBBYCHOP · 26/06/2010 08:22

I know of a lady very recently who had a baby at 48, all in the old fashioned way! So there is hope ...

Don't give up.

gumblossom · 01/07/2010 00:29

I was 3 months off my 42nd birthday when my DS was born. My grandmother had her last at 43. I'm 43 now and haven't given up yet!

Tasala · 01/07/2010 14:42

It might be worth you looking up your family fistory - if you're interested in that type of thing. It might be a good indication for you.

I was quite surprised when I saw that lots of the women in my family tree had given borth in their 40s, before contraception was about.

Julia1969 · 01/07/2010 14:55

Oh you don't know how much this has cheered me up. Am nearly 41 and ttc for first time after MMC May 09 (haven't been tru=ying all that time though).

Hairy i think we crossed paths on another thread . . . .nice to see you here!

RunLyraRun · 01/07/2010 16:50

I know someone who has just had children at 46 and then at 48, no assistance, no problems, and they are both gorgeous. Hurray for older mums!

hairytriangle · 02/07/2010 16:39

Hi Julia

Useful info I found out today via HSG. Everything looks completely normal and I am looking as fertile as anyone else, at the grand old age of 41. However, I have a blocked fallopian tube, but the other one is fine.

Just so's you know, at 42 you can still be fertile

My gran had my mum at 43 .

Julia1969 · 15/07/2010 11:54

Hairy - missed your post at the time and have only just spotted it. That's fab news for you and gives me just a little hope too! X

oliviacrumble · 15/07/2010 21:33

Am 44 and 12wks pregnant, having had four m/cs in a row since I was 40.

Lionstar · 15/07/2010 21:36

I know someone who had her first (probably last!) baby at 50, conceived naturally.

Woodelf · 29/07/2010 15:14

I got pg at 42 and had my son at 43, nearly 4 years ago, am trying to have no2 - preferably sometime soon. I am relying on good old fashioned mother nature to deliver the goodies! Allow it to happen and it just may, there is always hope....

Rockdoctor · 29/07/2010 15:24

First at 42 and second at 44. I know someone who had her first at 47 and she's not ruling out no.2. All natural btw

  • and a quick hello to the ladies on the over-40 ttc thread where I used to hang out
harassedinhants · 29/07/2010 16:14

My friend is a mw, and she helped deliver ivf twins to a 49 yr old first time mum.
