How many cycles- TTC in 30s?

Hi everyone… new here & starting to feel a bit drained, so I thought I’d reach out for some advice 🤍

I’m 34 and currently TTC, but I’m beginning to feel a bit disheartened as it’s taking longer than I expected. The TWW seems to get harder each cycle — hence this post!

If you’re also in your 30s, I’d really appreciate hearing how many cycles it took you to conceive (or where you’re at if you’re still trying), and whether you did anything differently in the cycle you got a positive.

It’s coming up to a year for me soon, and most of my friends conceived quite quickly, so I think I just need a bit of a different perspective.

It took me nearly a year to conceive my 1st, I was in the same boat as you, all my friends around that time seemed to have no issue, so I know its hard. Only thing I can think of is i started tracking by BBT, as i had longer cycles it helped me narrow down by fertile window. We are about to start TTC #2 so expecting a similar time frame, but hoping for a shorter one 🤞
Wishing you all the best and hope you get your BFP soon 😊

Thank you 😊

I am currently doing LH strips, so I will try BBT on top

Fingers crossed for a shorter time frame for you this time round! 💖x

DD1 (I was 33 when I conceived) took 6 months of bbt and DD2 (due June, was 35 when conceived) took 2 months with no tracking.

Bless you OP. Took me one cycle with my first age 36. Now 38 and on cycle 4 ttc my second. I had just come off long term (15 years plus) hormonal contraception to conceive my little boy and it happened straight away. So we were really confident trying for the second one based on that experience. Turns out I have long and irregular cycles which being on the pill supressed. It's taking me quite a while to get to grips with my cycle and pin down my fertile window. I used clear blue digital stick for a while and it does not suit irregular cycles at all. Just doing plain lh strips and the pre mom app. Will move onto bbt if not successful this month. Good luck xxx

I’m also 34 and TTC number 2. We conceived first try with our son. Currently on cycle 3. I’ll be honest I don’t do all the tracking and LH strips. Wanted to give it a few months of just going with the flow as I think I would personally find it to consuming. But I am starting worry age is a big factor now. Best of luck OP

I know that feeling very well, it took 21 cycles for us to conceive our first, both in our early 30s, felt like everyone around us was getting pregnant just by looking at eachother 😂

Not sure if you are on instagram but if you are, AOK Nutrition is a page that might help you, she has alot of content regarding coming off contraception

21? 😅 a month feels like a lifetime as well! Did you do anything different around the time? God it’s just so frustrating isn’t it 😅

I conceived at 32 afters 13 months and at 36 after 18 months..it was a long and difficult slog. Having scheduled sex was the hardest thing ever, even for my husband! Good luck, I hope it happens for you soon. After a year you can see the GP and starts having fertility tests xxx

1st - 1 cycle ( 34.5
2nd - 5 cycles 36.5
3rd - 4 cycles 38.5

Definitely start taking supplements, l took coq10, vitamin b, myoinsitil.

I also used clearblue advanced digital ovulation tests. Found them really helpful.

CRbear · 01/04/2026 19:56

9 months (approx. 6 cycles) - ended in miscarriage
6 weeks (first cycle post miscarriage - successful pregnancy. Approx. 11 months all in.

its really hard but temping, strips, CM tracking all make a difference

Started TTC at 27 (2016), struggled until 30 (2019) when I was referred (finally!!!) to IVF clinic for tests but due to my weight (BMI over 30 and Covid) I had to wait until I was 35 (2024) to actually start IVF round 1 which didn’t work! I decided to give IVF one last try this year for round 2 and it’s worked! I am 36 and 6 weeks pregnant ☺️

LuckyDuck93 · 02/04/2026 09:56

@Mol91x absolutely nothing different that cycle, i'd started using fertilily conception cup about 2/3 cycles before, so could have been that, but honestly (and I know this is so cliche) I was waiting on referrals for fertility testing and I think because I'd convinced myself nothing would happen until after the appointments, I really just let myself relax a little more than usual about it all, could be nothing to do with it, but it's the only difference!
Honestly they were some of the longest months of my life 😅

Hi! Reaching out here as feeling disheartened too. I’m 31 and had a MMC end of last year. Since then a good few cycles now with really well timed intercourse, tracking OPK and confirmed ovulation with BBT and still no success. So much for ‘improved chances of conception’ in the months after a MC! I know it hasn’t been anywhere near a year yet like yourself. But just feeling drained. I improved my supplementation and things like that since the MC. I’m on CD1 again today as period is just beginning.

The only thing I’d like to do is maybe get my progesterone checked this cycle at 7DPO if I can.

Have you had any checks?

JLP256 · 02/04/2026 21:12

Hello, it took 22 cycles to fall pregnant with #1 at age 33. We’d had preliminary tests and it was ‘unexplained’ infertility. We’re now trying for #2 (I’m 36) and hoped this time would be a breeze…not so much 😂currently 18 cycles in with no BFP so far. As others have said, I’d suggest getting the ball rolling with speaking to the GP. It helped me to feel like I was a little bit in control. Also, I was surprised once I made some ‘mum friends’ how many people actually struggled to get pregnant! I really feel for you, TTC can be so tough and lonely at times - crossing my fingers for you 💗

VioIetMoon · 02/04/2026 23:47

I had my first baby at 38 . Im 40 , ive got pregnant every cycle since August last year. All mcs 4.5 -7 weeks. Im currently 7 weeks pregnant again.
While getting pregnant these days is extremely easy for me , that wasnt always the case. We'd been trying since 20 years old and could never fall pregnant. Our first was conceived through the help of ivf at 37.
Fertility is very much individual. You'll never know how many cycles its going to take. Its so hard to predict.
NHS advice when i was trying was if under 35 you should speak to gp if trying for 2 years, as thats within a normal range and 6 months over 35. It may have changed to 1 year like people are saying , im not sure but would do no harm in asking. Some people are lucky but for others , even with absolutely no issues it can sometimes take longer.
Are you tracking ovulating with tests and bbt?

Aw I’m so sorry to hear this 🤍.

Honestly I’m the same with the tracking, supplements etc. it’s so draining then to just get negative tests. A month feels like a life time when you’re tracking 😅.

Just recently mine and my partners bloods got checked and they all came back fine. He has to give a sample next week. Tbh the doctors have been really good, as I haven’t actually hit the year mark yet but they’re already doing checks!

I know exactly what you mean about feeling drained 😅. It’s an actual emotional rollercoaster.

22 😅 I can’t even imagine how slow that went for you guys. All we’ve had so far is some bloods but my partner has to go do a sample next week.

I know, already by this forum I’ve realised it can take so much longer and I actually feel a bit more reassured! It’s just annoying when all your friends have it happen so quickly and you start to think will it ever happen for yourself 😅.

Thank you 💖 also fingers crossed for you also! Xx
