Can implantation bleeding go and come back?

Hi, I'm 38yr old. We started trying last month for baby #2. First pregnancy was textbook - positive test four days before period, no bleeding, some nausea a few weeks in, born on due date, healthy boy.

This time, I started to feel nausea the day after I ovulated & we had sex. Felt increasingly sick every day for a week even though too early to be morning sickness. Then it went away, had some brown and pink bleeding 5 DPO. My period was due yesterday and I have a faint positive test but I've got pink mucusy discharge again and the sickness is intensely bad plus some abdominal pain. Is it OK for implantation bleeding to come and go again? Can you feel sick from conception?

I'm worried that something is wrong or that it's twins and there are two eggs implantating! We don't have space or bandwidth for two babies so this is quite panic inducing...

Any advice would be helpful. It's too early to call pregnancy services. Thank you x

Well as you said yourself it’s too early for the nausea to be pregnancy related anyway so it was likely unrelated. So I wouldn’t start worrying about things like twins due to an unrelated bout of nausea.

You will however get people saying they themselves felt nausea from conception even though it’s technically impossible. HCG is what causes it and that doesn’t start rising until after implantation. And that happens minimum 5 days after conception as it takes 5 days for the embryo to reach the stage to be ready to implant.

Its possible you ovulated earlier than you thought of course and therefore it could be pregnancy related.

It’s also very possible for implantation bleeding to come and go. Lots of women get regular spotting and even bleeding throughout early pregnancy.
