TTC after IUD Removal

I had my mirena IUD removed yesterday ready to TTC. I know that fertility can return immediately, but nurse also said that the periods I had with the IUD were not my actual cycle. I've been making notes for the last few months to try to track my cycle ready for when I had the coil removed, and now just very confused!

Those who have had their IUDs removed, did your cycle change dramatically? How long until you could track ovulation?

In case it's relevant, I'm 32, have had IUDs since I was 19, other hormonal contraception before that.

Thanks!

I had the mirena coil in for about 5 years. I got mine out in May 2024 as we decided to start TTC. I didn't have a period while I had the mirena. I started using lh strips straight away to try to chart ovulation. I had my first bleed within 2 weeks of having the mirena out, but it only lasted about 2 days and was very light. I soon settled into a pattern of 27-28 day cycles. I was 36 when I had mine taken out so older than you. I'm now almost 34 weeks pregnant. I had 2 early losses before this pregnancy. Good luck!

Thanks for replying, I'm sorry for your losses. Congratulations and good luck with your pregnancy.

I had the Mirena coil too but with regular cycles. I had it removed in June, had irregular bleeding for a month so started tracking ovulation from August when it seemed to be back to normal.I conceived the following month and I was the same age as you. Wishing you all the very best of luck and plenty of baby dust x

I got my mirena removed in August, about 2 weeks later had a very light period. From then on my cycles were relatively regular, I started using natural cycles when I had the mirena out to track ovulation. We started TTC in November and conceived on the 2nd cycle, I am mid 20s. Now 15 weeks pregnant.
