Giving up alcohol and caffeine?

Just read the foresight preconception site and it has alarming statistics on miscarriage and alcohol and caffeine. Plan to give up next month, holiday this month not sure I can do it. I get such severe headaches from caffeine withdrawal. Anybody else given both up or thinking about it.

I gave up totally, but TBH I have had a few cups of coffee this time when I have really craved it. And tea. I think with regards to coffee and tea it's really to cut right back, esp. if you are a big drinker. I think the adive is no more than 2 cups a day, but you could try low caffine if cutting out totally gives you headaches. Alchohol is a different kettle of fish IMO.

Oh, but apparently men drinking some coffee is good for sperms BTW.

eww@ sperms, that sounds really odd. Meant sperm obviously

I am reducing my caffine and alcohol consumption whilst ttcing but not eliminating.

Def not going to give it up entirely yet, who knows how long ttcing might take, and you've got to go throught the whole pg without alcohol, so doing it whilst ttcing too is just too much. I'm not an alcoholic honest! Plus as this one (fingers crossed) will be dc1 that will be enough of a lifestyle change and I do feel like I want to make the most of still going out to the pub. Don't get me wrong I am not binge drinking, I am trying not to exceed 2-3 units a day and also trying to have 3 days mid week where I don't drink, although I am sure I will have the odd slip.

Re caffine, I am replacing 75% of my caffinated drinks with green/jasmine tea instead. Started with replacing 25%, then went to 50%, now have got to 75%.

I have started drinking caffeine free tea (but if you look it does still have a bit of caffiene - about 0.02%) and given up alcohol - but thats because we have been TTC nearly a year and both DH nad I have "ishoos" in the fertility dept so every little helps!

I've just been looking up the studies about alcohol and TTC. Like all these issues, one says give it up, the other says teetotallers take longer to conceive. I'm going to give up alcohol in the 2ww from now on though. But as my problem looks like no ovulation, I really am clutching at straws. NO WAY am I giving up caffine except on strict medical advice!!!

The hideous caffeine withdrawal headaches only last a week. Although it is a week of sheer hell.

Its a difficult dilemma isnt it. I have been ttc for 2 and a half years almost and i have nto given up drinking. Some months i ahve hardly drunk anything and some i have drunk quite a lot, it doesnt seem to make any difference. I read somewhere that the egg is particularly open on damage from alcohol in the 2 or 3 days preceeding ovulation and have also read the statistics about alcohol slowing down conception but i know that if i had let ttc rule my life for the last 28 cycles and hadn't touched a drop i wouldnt be even more down in the dumps about it that i am already !

boo, who knows whats right and wrong, i just try to carry on as normal.

Dh and I had been told that IVF/ICSI was our only possiblity of conceiving.

We gave up:

Alcohol
Caffeine
Red meat
Cow dairy
Fizzy drinks
Processed foods
Anything with aspartame in it.

and conceived naturally, the month before we were due to have IVF. Our gorgeous dd is now 3 and a half.
