I had one positive pregnancy test last Thursday that came up instantly and I’ve took one everyday since but seems to be negative every time.

It sounds like you’ve had a chemical pregnancy, I’m really sorry to hear that. HCG should be increasing, but the fact the tests are negative show that it has fallen. I had a similar experience a few weeks ago, I’m sorry.

Are these all different brands of tests? The top and bottom look similar but the control line is in a different place in both (negative one the control line is very close to edge of window).

When are you due your period? It could be like the PP suggested a chemical unfortunately but that bottom test is throwing me off

My period is due in 10 days, also the top and bottom tests are the same brands.

Thank you for you comment. I’m really sorry to hear you went through this. I hope you’re doing okay. Can i ask how you knew for certain it was a chemical please?

How many days past ovulation are you? 10 days prior to your period start date is very early to be testing and any results are not reliable to be honest.

CheeseNinja · 23/02/2026 13:49

I agree with pp. Are you sure about ovulation dates? 10 days before your period is due is too early.

Zivvy · 23/02/2026 13:57

10 days before your period is 4 days past ovulation. Your egg is still making it's way through your fallopian tubes! It is impossible for it to have implanted yet, and therefore impossible for it to have started producing HCG for a test to detect.
Unless you wrote a typo with the 10 days? If not, the line on your test must be a faulty test.
Or you are pregnant from last cycle possibly? If that's the case then since not all your tests are positive I would be cautious about ectopic and aware of the signs. This is a very unlikely explanation however.

Why were you testing last Thursday then? Your period would have been 2 weeks out from tiur period starting... so more likely you were in your fertile window?

Yes but what led you to test?

I was feeling quite off, my boobs felt very sore and tender which I’ve not expinced before, i have back ache and frequent urination. I thought i would check…

The positive definitely doesn't stack up then. You were only on day16 of your cycle last Thursday when you tested.... that's even too early for implantation for the vast majority of women.

Are you actively TTC?

No I’m not TTC i felt off and the test came back positive instantly

Is there any chance the positive test is an ovulation test rather than a pregnancy test? PP are right that Thursday was extremely early for a positive, going by the date of your last period

No it’s definitely a pregnancy test i spoke to a midwife they said i would be around 3 weeks if i was pregnant and to keep testing

In my opinion the positive test was a faulty test. The chances of you being pregnant and having enough HCG in your system at that stage in your cycle is quite low. (Unless as a pp stated you conceived the cycle before). But I think this is unlikely. I have seen others on here have false positives with those type of test.

In order to have got a positive test on 19th you’d have needed to have ovulated/conceived the LATEST 12th February (making you 7dpo last Thursday). Obviously that’s not impossible, but the fact you’ve had negative tests since in my opinion means you’re not pregnant and it was a bad test.

The midwife will only ever date from last period. Nothing under 3 weeks pregnant really exists as the first 2 weeks of pregnancy isn’t a thing. It’s the 2 weeks before you even ovulate as they use gestational age not actual age to date a pregnancy. And the week after those 2 weeks the embryo has yet to implant. 3 weeks pregnant is basically 7dpo for those with a standard cycle.
