Hi all,

I’m 32 (33 in June ), BMI slightly on the higher side but fairly stable weight-wise. My cycles are usually 32–36 days. I’ve had the odd 40–42 day cycle before but not loads.

This month I’m now on Day 37.

I had some unprotected sex twice but it was after what I thought was my fertile window (although now I’m doubting that because my cycles clearly don’t always behave).

The confusing bit:

  • Very sore boobs the last few days (more than usual for me)
  • On/off cramps and twinges
  • Gas/bloating
  • Now the boob soreness seems to be easing slightly
  • Negative red dye test on Day 36

I honestly don’t know what to think. I’d welcome a pregnancy but also weirdly just want my period to start so I can properly begin TTC next cycle. The limbo is driving me mad.

Does this just sound like a late ovulation and a longer cycle again? Has anyone had strong breast soreness before AF on longer cycles?

Also — if ovulation was late (say Day 28–30), would Day 36/37 just be too early to test anyway?

Trying not to spiral into “is this insulin resistance / hormones suddenly broken” territory when my last cycle was 33 days.

Would really appreciate some calm voices!

If you did ovulate on day 28-30 you'd only be 9DPO max, which is quite early to test. And those symptoms do sound like they could mean something, I'd wait a few more days and if no AF, test again. I'm very new to all this though, someone else might have better advice!

If you’re getting negatives symptoms are due to high progesterone rather than HCG.
Progesterone can mean either pregnancy or period so it’s really hard to tell!!
Itll drop just before/as you start to bleed if it’s a period and stay high if it’s a pregnancy.
Really just gotta wait until you get period or positive test but I know it’s hard xx
