First Trimester - Appointments

Hey, I tested positive 2 weekends ago - which puts me at around 3 weeks 6 days, medically it would be more. I referred myself to the community midwife. The automatic email that was sent stated that they will be contacting me within 2 weeks - anxiety has got the best of me. I did another test this weekend, just to ensure I was still pregnant - that was positive too.

My question is, how long did people wait for their first appointments? What does the first appointment entail?

The first appointment is usually the booking in appointment at 8-10 weeks (counted from the start of your last period). It's mostly a long list of questions about your medical history, a few measurements. The next appointment is usually the 12 week scan.

There really aren't many appointments at the beginning unless there's a particular reason for concern because there is very little we can do one way or another in the early stages – it's just a waiting game (but do take a suitable vitamin that includes folic acid).

If you do have bad pain or bleeding or are very sick, you should be able to get support from your local EPU (Early Pregnancy Unit). I think sometimes GPs can help with sickness as well.

If you tested positive two weeks ago you are probably between 5 and 6 weeks pregnant at least.

You can explect a booking appointment (they take medical history and bloods) around 8-11 weeks. They will then book you a dating scan at around 12-13 weeks.
