Hi all,

my prolactin has range from 700 last year to now 1,700 but I have regular periods and day 21 progesterone test was 42, suggesting I do ovulate strongly ,

it’s my 8th month TTC at 29 years old ,

does anyone have experience with prolactin stopping them from conceiving potentially ?

not sure if I should be concerned if I’m still having periods / ovulating ,

any advice / experience welcome

thank you

I had high prolactin (4000 plus) in my early 20s and had to take cabergoline to bring it down to conceive both my dc (ten years apart), my periods were very erratic. I have long term pituitary issues, the prolactin was just part of that. You should ask to be referred to endocrinology if you haven’t been already and they’ll be able to advise you. I’m now 45 and my prolactin hovers around 900 which is still high but because I don’t want any more children they’re not concerned about it.

Thank you for your reply ☺️

May I ask how long it took since starting the medication to conceive ?

I also am on levothyroxine and have been for the last few months so thought that would bring my prolactin down but no luck there so hoping I’ll be given the cabergoline

Thyroxine is for your thyroid and will have no impact whatsoever on your prolactin which is pituitary related (I am also on thyroxine). It was a long time ago that I went on the cabergoline to conceive so I’m struggling to remember but I think it took around 15 months to bring my periods back to normal and conceive.
